Job Overview
Tesla is seeking a highly motivated Manufacturing Controls Engineer responsible for sustaining, improving, and designing automated manufacturing equipment for the production line. The role involves collaboration with Test Engineers and Equipment Engineers to maintain existing automated equipment, troubleshoot PLC-based systems, and identify process improvements through automation.
Responsibilities
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives using data-driven solutions to enhance manufacturing reliability and efficiency.
- Support production ramp-up by troubleshooting automation equipment, PLCs, robots, motion controls, and vision systems.
- Develop and maintain PLC and HMI software to optimize operator and maintenance experiences.
- Contribute to equipment conceptual development considering specifications, process control, layout, cost, quality, and lead time.
- Create and approve electrical schematics, optimize equipment for safety and efficiency, and update HMI systems.
- Address equipment issues, troubleshoot PLCs and robots, and develop maintenance documentation and training materials.
- Drive continuous improvement to enhance safety, quality, productivity, and cost metrics, including safety risk assessments.
- Take end-to-end ownership to meet OEE targets throughout the SPARC matrix.
- Support 24 / 7 production operations as needed.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics, or Computer Science, or equivalent experience.At least 7 years of hands-on experience in manufacturing controls engineering with automation systems.Proficiency in IEC 61131-3 programming languages, especially structured text and ladder logic.Experience with Siemens PLCs, SICAR protocol, and Safety PLCs.Skilled in HMI / SCADA systems such as SIMATIC WinCC (TIA Portal) or Ignition.Experience with tools like SEW EURODRIVE, Atlas Copco, and CAD software like SolidWorks or CATIA is a plus.Knowledge of Ethernet communications, scripting (Python, C++, Go), motor drives, and field bus networks.Ability to select and integrate circuit protectors, sensors, safety hardware, and PLC hardware.Benefits
