The Medical Assistant in our Allergy Department plays a vital role in delivering specialized nursing care to patients with allergies, under the supervision of our ENT specialists. This position combines clinical expertise with patient education and administrative support to ensure seamless, high-quality care.
Key Responsibilities
1. Allergy Assessment and Testing
- Conduct comprehensive allergy assessments for new and returning patients.
- Administer and interpret allergy tests, including skin prick testing and blood draws for allergy evaluation.
2. Immunotherapy Preparation
Calculate, prepare, and mix patient-specific immunotherapy serums using aseptic technique.Apply clinical judgment in advancing formulas and dosing based on patient progress and physician protocols.3. Immunotherapy Administration
Administer allergy immunotherapy injections safely and accurately.Monitor patients for adverse reactions, including anaphylaxis, and provide immediate interventions when needed.Manage patient immunotherapy schedules and make dose adjustments per clinical guidelines.4. Patient Education
Educate patients and families on allergy management strategies and environmental controls.Provide practical lifestyle guidance to reduce allergen exposure and improve outcomes.5. Collaboration with ENT Specialists
Partner with ENT physicians to develop, implement, and monitor individualized allergy treatment plans.Communicate patient progress, concerns, and treatment outcomes to providers regularly.6. Documentation and Record Keeping
Maintain accurate, timely, and thorough documentation in the electronic health record (EHR).Record allergy testing results, immunotherapy details, and patient responses per policy.7. Patient Support
Offer compassionate support and address questions or concerns regarding allergy treatments.Collaborate with other clinical staff to ensure coordinated and comprehensive patient care.8. Clinic Operations and Coordination
Organize and manage the daily workflow of a nurse-run clinic, including patient scheduling, billing, payments, and clerical duties.Assist with insurance verifications, lab coordination, and patient communication.Maintain cleanliness, organization, and functionality of the clinical workspace.9. Compliance and Safety
Adhere to all HIPAA, infection control, and safety protocols.Complete all required compliance and safety training.Participate in quality assurance and regulatory compliance activities.Qualifications
Previous experience in allergy or ENT clinical settings preferred.Strong knowledge of medical terminology, clinical procedures, and ENT-specific instruments.Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems and general computer skills (minimum 50 WPM typing speed).Current Basic CPR certification required.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a patient-centered approach.Ability to multitask, prioritize, and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.Demonstrated compassion, empathy, and professionalism in all patient interactions.
