Nature And Scope Of Position
The Facilities Assistant works with the Facilities Director to ensure the upkeep of all buildings, vehicles, and grounds owned or rented by Magnolia. Proper upkeep of the facilities used by Magnolia is essential for the care and well-being of our clients.
Primary Qualifications
Education :
- High School diploma or GED, required.
Work Experience :
Previous experience working in maintenance, construction, or a related field, required.Previous experience with developmentally disabled adults, preferred.Certification or License :
Current Louisiana Driver's License requiredCurrent Automotive Insurance Coverage requiredAttendance at Mandatory Training & In-ServicesSpecial Skills :
Familiarity with maintenance in some or all of the following areas : plumbing, electrical, carpentry, HVAC, landscaping.Good written and verbal communication skills.Good interpersonal skills.Ability to work under pressure.Other Considerations :
21 years of age or older.Satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record.Ability to pass background screening including pre-employment drug test, background check, physical, and other requirements.Ability to be reached for assistance when emergencies arise.Weekend, evening, late-night work, and overtime required at times.Job Functions

Perform routine inspections of buildings, equipment, and systemsRepair or replace broken or damaged doors, locks, windows, and screensPatch and paint walls, ceilings, or exteriors as neededAssemble furniturePerform basic carpentry tasks such as repairing cabinets, railings, or stairsAddress basic plumbing issues such as but not limited to leaks, clogged drains, and running toilets.Perform basic electrical repairs such as but not limited to replacing light fixtures, outlets, or switches.Replace HVAC filters, thermostats, and inspect HVAC systemsSchedule and perform preventive maintenance on equipment and systemsCheck water heaters, boilers, and water pressure systems regularlyTest emergency lighting and backup generatorsClear snow and ice from walkways and drivewaysSweep, pressure wash, and maintain sidewalks, parking areas, and patiosClean gutters and downspoutsMaintain fences, gates, and outdoor recreational areasConduct regular safety inspections of living areas, common rooms, and mechanical spacesSet up safety barriers or signage when hazards are presentCoordinate with pest control services when neededReport hazardous conditions to managementEnsure residential units are clean, well-maintained, and in good working orderRespond promptly to maintenance tickets from house managers or staffCheck appliance operation (stoves, refrigerators, laundry machines)Secure loose handrails, ramps, and accessibility featuresMaintain confidentiality and sensitivity when entering resident-occupied areasUnlock and lock buildings daily, if neededSupport event setups for events on the main campus.Maintain mechanical rooms, storage areas, and maintenance logsMaintain accurate logs of work performed and materials usedTrack and report inventory needs for tools, supplies, and replacement partsCommunicate effectively with supervisors and team membersProvide updates on large repair projects or downtime for systemsComplete work orders via mobile app or paper systemOther Functions
