Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)
- Inspects machines and equipment for accident prevention devices
- Observes workers to determine use of prescribed safety equipment, such as glasses, hard hats, goggles, respirators and clothing
- Inspects specified areas for fire-prevention equipment and other safety and first-aid supplies
- Tests working areas for noise, toxic, and other hazards, using decibel meter, gas detector, and light meter
- Document all accidents, safety violations, unsafe conditions / activities
- Prepares report of findings with recommendations for corrective action / s
- Investigate accidents to ascertain causes for use in recommending preventive safety measures and developing safety program / s
- May demonstrate use of safety equipment
- Ensures compliance with occupational safety and health regulations
- Coordinates of Safety programs to reduce or eliminate occupational injuries, illnesses, deaths, and financial losses
- Assist with Human Resources with the recruitment / orientation processes
- Additional assignments with the Safety Director’s direction
Qualifications
Education / Experience
Bachelor’s Degree of occupational safety / health preferred or equivalent combinations of training and related experienceAt least 1 – 2 years of construction and / or industrial safety experience preferredSafety Certifications : CHST, OHST, CSHO, etc. are highly desirableThorough understanding and ability to enforce all federal, state, local and Company regulationsKnowledge / Skill Requirements
Ability to recognize hazardous situations and implement essential corrective measuresSolid training / teaching experienceMust be knowledgeable of Workers’ Compensation lawsHigh ethical standardsExcellent communication skills (both oral and written)Can marshal resources (people, funding, material, support, etc.) to get things doneMust be able to orchestrate multiple activities simultaneously to accomplish a goalAble to use resources effectively and efficiently and arrange information in a useful mannerBe able to be a strong voice in bringing the company’s slogan of Safety First, Always to the forefrontPhysical Requirements
