Position Summary :
Orthopedic technicians work directly with orthopedic doctors and surgeons in the treatment of bone and joint injuries. Principally, orthopedic technology involves the application and removal of casts, splints, and braces. Be able to adjust crutches, walkers, and other aids and provide instructions to patients in their use.
Basic Qualifications :
Vocational / Technical Degree in Accredited Surgical Technology Program (required)
Experience :Preferred minimum of 2 years’ experience
Knowledge and experience working with Electronic Medical Record (EMR)
(Completion of a recognized Orthopedic Technologists (OTC) program
Licensure, Registrations & Certifications :This job does not require a license, registrations or certifications
Essential Job Responsibilities :
Apply, adjust and remove castsMeasure and fit patients for braces and other orthopedic devicesAssist Orthopedic Surgeon in reduction of fracturesInstruct patients in proper care of cast and splints, including walking with cast and bootsInstructing patients with the use of crutches and DMEChange dressing and care for woundsRemove sutures, staples, etc.Assist with aspirations, prepare injections (set up ultrasound)Clean and stock patient exam and treatment roomsOrder medical supplies and manage DME inventoryAssist in making follow-up appointments and consultation appointments with specialists for patientsAdhere to established clinic / office policy and procedure directivesEMR documentations of services performedManage patient care flow by rooming patients in a timely manner, assuring x-rays are completed and informing physicians when patient is ready to be seen.Perform a broad spectrum of duties including pre-visit preparation, assisting with the patient visit, and post-visit duties.Perform other duties as required.Perform other related duties as assigned.
