Job Duties :

The Custodial Lead provides custodial services, including sweeping, dusting, vacuuming, mopping and trash and recycling removal in classrooms, offices, toilet rooms, hallways stairs and elevators on an as-need basis. Operates and cares for custodial equipment such as floor scrubbers, floor polishers, riding scrubbers, industrial vacuums, wet-dry vacuums, etc. Inspects, adjusts, maintains and repairs custodial equipment. Provides campus window washing functions, including the washing of windows, skylights, glass blocks, doors and other glazed surfaces. Properly and safely sets up scaffolding and high lift equipment. Operates and works from High lift and boom trucks. Requires the ability to work in and from high places. Provides group leadership in supervisor's absence. Coordinates custodial activities and work assignments, hands out and collect keys, takes telephone messages and processes emergency calls. This is a 3rd shift position, the days / hours are Sunday - Thursday, 10pm - 6 : 30am.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

A. Provides work directions and leadership in conducting and coordinating campus custodial activities.

1. Make work assignments to ensure custodial coverage in the supervisor's absence

2. Direct custodians in the set up and tear down of campus events per directions on work orders and supervisors

3. Dispense and collect Custodial Department keys in the supervisor's absence

4. Take information and process emergency calls in the supervisor's absence

5. Cleaning special areas and equipment

6. Operate power equipment / manually sweep and clean offices, classrooms, bathrooms, hallways, stairs and elevators.

7. Operate power equipment / manually sweep, mop, scrub, seal and wax floors and hallways.

8. Collection of waste and recyclable materials including their placement in proper receptacles or collection sites.

9. Wash windows, walls, chalk boards, and stair risers.

10. Replenish restrooms with building supplies.

11. Clean light fixtures and replace light bulbs.

12. Operate power equipment to shampoo carpeting and clean upholstered furniture.

13. Wash and dust furniture routinely as needed.

14. Remove snow from walks and drives to allow access to buildings

15. Detail cleaning : detail duties include dust shelving, paintings, and wall hangings, dust / clean blinds, wash doors, walls and handrails as needed. (Semi-annually, minimum)

16. Perform other standard cleaning procedures as required.

B. Various Campus-wide routine and special cleaning activities

1. Provide custodial services, including stripping and waxing floors, sweeping, dusting, vacuuming, mopped and trash and recycling removal in classrooms, offices, bathrooms, hallways stairs and elevators on an as-need basis

2. Clean special areas and equipment

3. Inventory, order and distribute custodial supplies as needed; stock custodial closets on an as need basis; used department vehicle to distributed custodial supplies and equipment to outlying buildings

4. Possess a valid WI driver's license.

5. Operation of custodial equipment with regular cleaning and inspection for adjustment and repair. (Notify supervisor in writing)

C. Manage and maintain custodial equipment.

1. Take physical inventory of all custodial equipment.

2. Clean, check, inspect and perform required routine maintenance on all custodial equipment; notify supervisor of poor equipment conditions, misuse or abuse

3. Attend, participate and help present training sessions on the proper operation and maintenance of equipment

4. Grease, lubricate, check batteries, added fluids, etc. as needed by equipment

operating / maintenance guides and / or instruction manuals.

5. Operate all custodial equipment such as floor scrubbers, floor polishers, riding scrubbers, industrial vacuums, wet-dry vacuums, and carpet cleaning extractors.

6. Coordinate work schedules to fit into daily activity in assigned area and establish a routine.

7. Notify lead worker or supervisor of equipment or facilities in need of repair.

8. Deliver and set up new equipment and furniture.

9. Ability to communicate and work with management and the occupants of assigned areas to insure high degree of cleanliness and proper waste handling.

10. Inventory and surplus items as directed.

11. Tag and / or stencil equipment and furniture as necessary.

12. Perform preventative and corrective maintenance as directed.

D. Accomplish campus window washing.

1. Wash windows, sills, frames, skylights, glass block and glazed surfaces; mix window cleaning solutions

2. Remove, wash and hang storm windows and screens

3. Safely set up scaffolding and staging to be used for window washing and cleaning in high areas; remove and properly store scaffolding and stage

4. Operate vertical and articulated lifts and boom truck

5. Routinely work from high places, both indoors and outdoors, on upper elevations of campus buildings

6. Operate custodial equipment properly.

7. Maintain an orderly stock of supplies in supply closet.

E. Performance of other miscellaneous duties as directed

1. Maintain simple records and make reports on activities as needed.

2. Move furniture and equipment as needed

3. Assist other crew members with supervisor's permission, expediting big cleaning duties. Ability to work as a team member.

4. Recognize routine problems and perform required routine maintenance

5. Other duties as assigned

Individuals must possess these knowledge, skills, and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation. • Learn and perform all essential job functions accurately and safely with minimal direct supervision within the six-month probationary period.
• Ability to read, sufficient to follow instructions on cleaning chemicals, cleaning equipment and Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
• Ability to accept and follow supervisor's direction.
• Ability to communicate effectively with Supervisor and other staff members.
• Ability to perform and complete multiple work assignments daily within assigned shift.
• Ability to tolerate temperature extremes when performing snow / ice removal and waste / recyclables disposal.
• Ability to work in high and / or small, restricted spaces
• Ability to complete a full range of motion in order to operate manual and electric-powered cleaning equipment and machines, including snow shovels.
• Ability to conform to, be alert and productive during, assigned work schedule.
• Ability to grasp and manipulate tools used in performance of all custodial tasks.
• Ability to work effectively in teams for major cleaning projects.
