Job Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med / Surg Telemetry Float Pool position with night shifts and a requirement for an active WA or compact RN license.

Responsibilities

  • Work in an acute care hospital setting
  • Assigned to the Med / Surg Telemetry Float Pool, floating between Med Surg, PCU, ED boarding, and temporary bed locations as needed
  • Care for adult patients with common diagnoses such as CHF, COPD, cellulitis, ETOH withdrawal, kidney issues, dementia, and CVA
  • Patient ratios are typically 5 : 1, with a possible maximum of 6 : 1 during inpatient boarding
  • Unit has 32 beds with telemetry monitoring; nurses are responsible for reading telemetry strips
  • Shifts are 12 hours, from 7 : 00 pm to 7 : 30 am, with every other weekend required
  • Epic EMR is used, and Epic training will be provided during orientation
  • Floor-specific orientation is provided
  • Charge nurse and nurse aides are present on each shift
  • Floating is required between several units including Med Surg, PCU, and ED boarding areas
  • Nurses are supported by a cross-shift SWAT IV team, 24 / 7 respiratory therapy, and 24 / 7 pharmacy access
  • Care is provided in a highly observed environment with camera monitoring
  • Holiday coverage is required
  • Scrub attire must be professional in color, pattern, and style as no specific color is mandated
  • Nurses may not have been directly employed by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility in the past year
  • First-time travelers will be considered for this position

    • Requirements

  • Active WA or compact RN license must be in hand at time of consideration; pending licenses are not accepted
  • Minimum two years of recent RN experience
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications are required
  • NIHSS certification is preferred but not required
  • Experience in Med / Surg and telemetry settings required
  • Ability to manage Heparin, Cardizem, insulin drips, and narcotics (excluding DKA protocol)
  • Must be able to review and interpret telemetry strips
  • Must provide two professional references : one supervisor from the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from the last 3 years
  • Copy of driver’s license required for consideration
