Overview
The Employee Benefits Consultant role at BBSI provides guidance and support to our business-owner clients and internal teams as part of the master benefits program, BBSI Benefits. This position requires strong business acumen, an entrepreneurial mindset, and a proactive, results-driven approach for clients and internal teams. The role collaborates with the branch, clients, and brokers (when applicable) to tailor benefits packages that meet client and employee needs.
The ideal candidate balances account management and service with responsibilities to acquire new BBSI Benefits clients and their employees. The objective is to partner with branches, internal underwriting, and the corporate operations team to drive growth and positive client experiences throughout the lifecycle of the client relationship.
Responsibilities
- Generate growth of the master benefits program (Health, Dental, Vision, Ancillary, etc.).
- Design and recommend client companies' benefits offerings based on client objectives, providing strategic guidance and decision-making support.
- Educate client employees (worksite employees) on the value of their benefits and simplify industry concepts during open enrollment to maximize engagement and plan participation.
- Support field-driven new business development by identifying opportunities and fit with clients / RP.
- Serve as a subject matter expert in employee benefits, providing strategic guidance, training, and support to colleagues, external clients and their employees, and internal clients.
- Mentor and train peers to contribute to professional growth of the team.
- Manage client relationships to influence the client and worksite employee experience with BBSI and the Benefits Program across the client lifecycle, including onboarding, implementation, compliance, collaboration, and prompt resolution of escalated matters.
- Lead benefits onboarding and ensure timely implementation of benefits plans; conduct renewal processes and support client retention.
Requirements
8+ years hands-on employee benefits experience at a benefits brokerage or general agency; Account Management and / or Benefits Administration experience a plus. Prior PEO experience a plus.Thorough understanding of employee benefits principles and practices, including laws and regulations at state and federal levels, product and market trends, underwriting concepts, and ongoing self-directed knowledge development.Ability to develop deep knowledge of master plan contracts, carrier partnerships, competitors, plan limitations and exclusions, internal processes, underwriting requirements, and compliance considerations.Strong communication skills to tailor complex concepts to diverse audiences in verbal and written formats.Excellent facilitation skills for meetings, presentations, and trainings at all organizational levels.Ability to build and maintain relationships with branch leaders, business unit teams, referral sources, and operations support staff.Demonstrated ability to manage a portfolio of accounts and become a trusted advisor to business owners while promoting BBSI and the benefits program.Ability to prioritize in a fast-paced, high-volume environment and perform administrative tasks as needed.Extensive Microsoft Office experience (especially Excel and PowerPoint) and familiarity with CRM software.Availability to travel up to 25% during peak periods, including possible overnight stays.Current Life and Health Insurance Producer's License.Compensation and Benefits
The salary range for this position is $105,000–$120,000 annually. Starting pay may vary based on geography, skills, education, experience, certifications, and other qualifications. This position is eligible for incentive pay under the company plan.
