Position Summary
The Medical Assistant participates in the delivery of excellent medical services in a patient centered environment with an emphasis on the prevention of disease; preparation of the patient for examination and / or procedures; administers medications under direction of provider; performs in office lab procedures and phlebotomy on pediatric and adult patients; sterilizes instruments and ensure compliance with OSHA regulations. This will include actively participating in and supporting quality improvement activities and the clinical practice teams with these efforts.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Prepare patients and treatment rooms for examination and treatmentTake patient histories and vital signsAdminister injections and apply dressings as instructedPrepare and maintain supplies and equipment for treatments, including sterilizationObserves all infection control policiesAssist providers in preparing for minor surgeries and examsAssist with scheduling tests and treatmentsComplete and maintain patient documentation, files, records and other informationAttend required meetings and participate in committees as requestedWorks closely with the providers to receive guidance and instruction for treating patientsMaintain appropriate communication and good interpersonal skills with supervisors, providers, staff and patients to ensure coordinated efforts and provision of high-quality serviceTake all necessary precautions to protect center assets and property against loss or waste through negligence or dishonestyUtilizes equipment that interfaces with NVHC EMR system (e.g. EKG, spirometry, etc.)Required Qualifications
High school diploma or GED EquivalentFluent in English and SpanishCertification of completion of a Medical Assistant program or equivalent experienceNational certification as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) or AMT Registered Medical Assistant. If not nationally certified must obtain within 180 days of employment.BLS / CPR CertificationPreferred Qualifications
1 year experience as a medical assistant in family medicine, pediatrics, or OB / GYNEnglish / Spanish fluencySkill in operating computer databases; EHR / EMRAbility to read, write, and calculate mathematical figuresKnowledge of general office practices in a medical settingKnowledge of medical examination, diagnostic and treatment room proceduresAbility to communicate in a courteous and professional mannerAbility to understand and respond appropriately, effectively, and sensitively to underserved populationsKnowledge of ADA, CPT, and ICD-9-CM codingEqual Opportunity Statement
