SPECIAL ASSISTANT ATTORNEY GENERAL (LEGAL FELLOW)

Overview

The Arizona Attorney General's Office (AGO) is hiring an attorney with practice experience and a passion for environmental protection to join the Environmental Protection Unit in the Civil Division as a Special Assistant Attorney General. This one-year position, sponsored by Arizona State University School of Law (ASU Law) with the expectation of renewal contingent on satisfactory job evaluations and continued funding, offers the opportunity to work under the direction of the Environmental Protection Unit Chief and collaborate with unit attorneys and staff, the Civil Litigation Division Chief, the Consumer Protection and Advocacy Section, civil and environmental investigators, and the Attorney General to pursue priority actions to the fullest extent of the law where warranted.

The Special Assistant Attorney General will oversee development of legal matters initiated or worked on as part of a larger team within the Unit or from other units within the Civil Litigation Division. This role may offer the ability to work remotely within Arizona based on department needs and performance measures.

Responsibilities

• Develop and manage legal matters related to environmental protection, natural resources, and climate change law as part of a cross-unit litigation team.
• Work closely with the Unit Chief and other AGO decision-makers on cutting-edge environmental litigation.
• Prepare for jury trials, manage case development from inception to completion, and engage in case management and court room activities.
• Collaborate with the Civil Litigation Division, Consumer Protection and Advocacy Section, investigators, and the Attorney General to prosecute priority actions.
