Building Service Technician 1
The Building Service Technician 1 provides building maintenance through custodial and preventive care. By utilizing the assistance of inmate / client / detainee workers, the Building Service Technician is able to maintain the designated facilities according to high standards.
Responsibilities include :
- Directing inmate / client / detainee workers and contractors in proper methods of care and cleaning inside and outside of the facility.
- Cleaning and caring for the facility as directed.
- Performing repair tasks, such as carpentry, painting, and plumbing.
- Performing repairs on hand tools, power tools and equipment, and addressing simple electrical problems.
- Supervising laundry and maintenance work to ensure assigned duties are completed.
- Providing input on maintenance budget, both current and future.
- Maintaining records relating to facility care and maintenance.
- Monitoring tool and chemical inventory.
- Ordering supplies as necessary.
- Performing related duties as assigned by supervisor.
- Maintaining compliance with all county policies and procedures.

Qualifications :
Education and Experience :
HS Diploma or GED required.One year of work experience in building maintenance preferred.Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid South Dakota Driver's license within 90 days of moving to South Dakota.Additional Information :
Working Environment :
Work is performed in an office or correctional facility.This position may be exposed to machinery with moving parts, contagious or infectious diseases, irritating chemicals, wet condition and occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions.Work may require the use protective devices, such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc.This position will include close interactions with inmates / detainees / clients.Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and quantitative productivity standards.Physical Requirements :
Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state and local standards.Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds unassisted.Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively on telephone, in-person and in writing.Must be able to sit, walk, stand, climb, balance and use hands and arms to reach and feel.Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.
