A leading company in the advanced manufacturing and medical device industry is seeking a Molding Manufacturing Engineer to support injection molding operations at their Libertyville, IL facility. This role focuses on process optimization, quality improvement, and equipment efficiency. The ideal candidate will have strong technical skills in injection molding, tooling, and process validation.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and optimize molding processes using Scientific Molding techniques and Design of Experiments (DOE)
- Establish robust process windows for all molded components
- Troubleshoot molding and manufacturing issues to reduce defects and improve output
- Validate new materials, molds, and press setups
- Reduce setup times and optimize cycle times for increased productivity
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive continuous improvement initiatives
- Create and update process documentation, including setup instructions and work instructions
- Support equipment maintenance and identify root causes of failures
- Conduct process validations and lead optimization efforts using statistical analysis
- Participate in the development of PFMEAs and Control Plans for new and existing products
- Assist in layout planning, workflow design, and space utilization for efficient operations
Required Qualifications
5+ years of hands-on experience in injection moldingDeep knowledge of hydraulic and electric molding presses, mold design, and auxiliary equipment (e.g., dryers, loaders, hot runner systems)Experience with common molding-grade plastics : Polypropylene, ABS, Polycarbonate, Nylon , etc.Strong troubleshooting and process validation skillsFamiliarity with EOAT (End of Arm Tooling) and robotic systems (6-axis robot experience preferred)Excellent documentation and communication skillsPreferred Qualifications
RJG Master Molder Certification or equivalentBackground in regulated industries such as medical device or automotive manufacturingWorking knowledge of GMP , root cause analysis , and statistical process controlExperience developing and maintaining PFMEAs, control plans, and risk assessmentsTechnical writing experience for procedures, specifications, and validation protocols
