Job Summary :
The Crew Chief is responsible for leading field crews in the execution of civil engineering projects, including surveying, site layout, construction inspection, and data collection. The role involves managing daily field operations, ensuring safety and accuracy, and maintaining communication between field personnel and project management teams.
Key Responsibilities :
- Lead and supervise field crews on civil engineering and surveying projects.
- Conduct topographic, boundary, ALTA / NSPS, and construction layout surveys.
- Interpret civil engineering plans, specifications, and drawings.
- Set up and operate survey equipment such as GPS, total stations, and data collectors.
- Ensure quality control and accuracy of data collection and field work.
- Document field activities and prepare daily reports.
- Maintain field equipment and vehicles in good working condition.
- Ensure compliance with company safety policies and OSHA regulations.
- Communicate effectively with project managers, engineers, clients, and contractors.
- Train and mentor junior crew members.
Qualifications :
Associate degree in Surveying or Civil Engineering Technology preferred.3+ years of field experience in surveying or civil construction.Proven leadership ability and experience as a Party Chief or Crew Chief.Proficiency with GPS, robotic total stations, and digital data collection tools.Strong understanding of land surveying principles, construction methods, and civil engineering terminology.Valid drivers license and clean driving record.Ability to travel to various project sites and work in outdoor conditions.Preferred Skills :
Experience with CAD and survey data processing software (e.g., AutoCAD Civil 3D, Trimble Business Center).Familiarity with DOT, municipal, and private development projects.Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and legal descriptions.OSHA 10 / 30 certification (or willingness to obtain).Physical Requirements :
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.Work in all weather conditions and on uneven terrain.Stand, walk, bend, and kneel for extended periods.Bottom of Form
