Work Schedule : Monday – Friday, 8 : 00 am – 5 : 00 pm (Some flexibility such as evenings and weekends may be required to meet departmental needs).

Office of Instruction : Oversees nine divisions and supports dual enrollment and guided pathways.

Primary Purpose

Under the direction of a college president, plans, organizes and directs the operations and activities of the college educational programs and services. The Vice President of Instruction serves as the college Chief Instructional Officer.

Essential Functions

Plans, organizes and directs the operations and activities of the college instructional programs including curriculum, policies and procedures, program review, schedule of class offerings, college catalog and related publications, extended day / weekend college, distance learning, library services, and related educational programs. Develops and implements plans to facilitate and improve instructional programs and related operations, including enrollment management and budgeting. Directs grants and special programs (vocational education, workforce preparation and economic development). Supervises staff development, trains, evaluates and directs personnel, participates in hiring. Arranges training and orientation for new employees. Attends or chairs meetings, serves on committees, and coordinates programs with District and college personnel. Coordinates outreach with colleges, high schools, vendors, students, community agencies and other outside organizations. Applies emerging technologies to perform duties efficiently. Provides leadership to increase diversity, address achievement gaps, and foster an inclusive work and educational environment. Supports a diverse student and employee population through interculturally competent leadership. Performs related duties as assigned. Acts as college liaison with District Human Resources for instructional personnel matters (evaluations, record-keeping).

Working Relationships

The Vice President of Instruction maintains frequent contact with college and District administrators, faculty and staff.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of District organization, operations, policies and objectives; California education code and Title 5; research project policies and data analysis; English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary; record keeping; budget preparation and maintenance; appropriate software and databases. Ability to interpret, apply and explain laws, regulations, policies and procedures; assess, analyze and evaluate research projects; analyze situations and determine effective actions; plan, organize and prioritize work; meet schedules and deadlines; work independently; communicate effectively; supervise and train others; establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Special Requirements

The award of all degrees must be verifiable on a legible transcript. Degrees and coursework must be from accredited post-secondary institutions. If selected as a finalist, you will be required to provide transcripts (official or unofficial). No visa sponsorship is offered.

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution and at least one year of formal training, internship or leadership experience related to the assignment. Demonstrated commitment to diversity and the ability to work with diverse student, faculty and staff populations.

Desirable Qualifications

Earned doctorate from a regionally accredited institution; at least three years of teaching or academic experience; at least three years of administrative experience (preferably at a community college); knowledge of educational technology including AI; experience with participatory governance and collective bargaining; experience collaborating with faculty to maintain current curriculum; equity-minded approach to work with colleagues and students.

Working Conditions

Office environment; frequent interruptions; long sitting periods; may require off-site duties.

Salary Range

$190,126 - $239,986 Annually

Special Instructions Summary

District offers flexible / hybrid work options; salary placement determined by Office of Human Resources. Finalists may need to submit official transcripts and provide identification and work eligibility. No visa sponsorship. The district may fill one or more positions within eight months.

Minimum Qualifications – Experience : One year of experience equals 12 months of work at a maximum of 40 hours per week. Part-time experience will be converted to full-time equivalent for qualification purposes.

Minimum Qualifications – Education : 24 units equal one year of education. Education must be from a regionally accredited institution and verifiable on a legible unofficial transcript.

NOCCCD provides travel reimbursements for applicants. Evaluations of foreign degrees may be required. You may upload additional transcripts in the application if desired.
