Editorial Messaging and Positioning Writer
Location : Culver City, CA - Hybrid (in Office 2-3 days)
Pay Rate : $61–$72.52 / hr
Duration : 12-month assignment
Hours : 40 hours / week
Summary
Our client’s Music Editorial team is seeking an Editorial Messaging and Positioning Writer to craft compelling narratives that articulate the platform’s unique editorial point of view. This role shapes the language, stories, and strategies that define how the team communicates across its platform, marketing channels, and public-facing touchpoints.
The ideal candidate is a passionate storyteller with deep knowledge of music and culture, a strong editorial voice, and experience writing and editing for major music media brands. They excel at blending creativity with strategic clarity to craft messages that resonate globally.
Key Responsibilities
- Write and edit briefs that inform messaging, brand positioning, and creative strategy across internal and external communications.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with marketing, PR, and creative teams to align storytelling with broader brand initiatives.
- Utilize audience insights to shape resonant narratives and identify innovative story angles that drive engagement and retention.
- Develop original editorial concepts and storytelling frameworks that strengthen the platforms connection to listeners.
- Maintain a consistent brand voice across written content, ensuring clarity, tone, and authenticity.
- Stay immersed in popular music and cultural trends to identify timely opportunities for storytelling and brand alignment.
- Translate strategic goals into language that inspires both internal teams and external audiences.
What You Bring
Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field.5+ years of professional experience as a music writer and / or editor for a recognized media brand.Proven expertise in narrative development, editorial strategy, and brand storytelling.Deep understanding of the music landscape, including artists, genres, and industry dynamics.Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with attention to tone, clarity, and detail.Familiarity with artist and creator marketing strategies, as well as working cross-functionally with marketing, PR, and design teams.Strong editorial judgment, with the ability to balance creativity and strategy under tight deadlines.Experience adhering to style guides and applying inclusive, audience-conscious language.Ability to analyze performance data and adapt messaging based on insights.Collaborative spirit with the ability to build relationships across creative, technical, and strategic teams.Must be able to work on-site in Culver City, CA at least three days per week on a hybrid schedule.Bonus Points
