A growing and respected insurance organization is seeking an experienced Insurance Senior Accountant to join its accounting and finance team in Clearwater, FL. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented professional who thrives in a dynamic, collaborative, and supportive environment.
Youll apply both GAAP and Statutory (SAP) accounting principles to ensure accurate reporting, compliance, and analysis across a diverse portfolio of insurance operations. The position offers excellent visibility, career growth potential, and frequent interaction with senior management.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and analyze financial statements and journal entries for general ledger accounts.
- Ensure accurate recording of earned, assumed, and ceded premiums.
- Prepare NAIC quarterly and annual filings in compliance with statutory requirements.
- Produce reinsurance settlement statements and calculate quarterly premium taxes across multiple states.
- Conduct variance and ratio analysis; present findings to senior leadership.
- Reconcile bank accounts and intercompany loans to ensure data integrity.
- Prepare balance sheets, P&L statements, and management reports to summarize financial performance.
- Audit financial transactions, ensuring compliance with GAAP, SAP , and internal policies.
- Identify and implement process improvements, including automation where possible.
- Assist with regulatory filings and tax reporting at the federal, state, and local levels.
Qualifications : Qualifications
Education : Bachelors degree in Accounting (required).Experience :Minimum 4 years of accounting experience .
At least 2 years in the insurance industry .Minimum 2 years of statutory accounting experience .Minimum 4 years of GAAP accounting experience .Certifications : LOMA or similar insurance designation is an asset.Technical Skills :Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel ; strong skills in Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Experience with QuickBooks , Access , or Clearwater Analytics is a plus.Familiarity with commission reporting systems such as APL preferred.Core Competencies
