Overall Purpose of the Role :
Responsible for ensuring that the products produced meet quality standards required to minimize quality costs and maximize customer satisfaction whilst ensuring that procedures and processes are adhered to. Ensure incoming materials meet required quality standards. Responsible for identifying and
raising quality issues and for speedily resolving them to ensure zero impact to the customer. Work closely with Engineering on new product introductions to ensure the robustness of product builds. Work in a team environment to develop and implement best practices that emphasize defect prevention, reduction in variation and waste and provide for continuous improvements in meeting all customer requirements. Maintain Metrological equipment that generates quality data. Manage the customer specific requirements and offer technical support. Technical expertise on composites manufacturing will be taught on the job, but the Quality Engineer will be leading work to define and establish quality processes in pursuit of an ISO 9001 certification.
Key Responsibilities :
- Lead team in pursuing an ISO 9001 certification
- Manage all quality-related issues within the manufacturing team (e.g. internal, supplier, customer and customer warranty)
- Identify root cause and instigate permanent corrective actions for product quality issues
- Carry out product and process auditing
- Ensure control plans and associated documentation are implemented effectively and maintained
- Monitor and report on quality-related key performance indicators including scrap monitoring, rework levels, parts per million (PPM) figures
- Stop production in the event of manufacture of unacceptable goods / processes
- Work closely with engineering on developing product layup instructions
- Assist with training of quality awareness
- Participate in cross-functional teams in the development of new products or changes related to current products in meeting customer requirements
- Participate in the development and refinement of Design and Process FMEA's (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis)
- Lead quality audits
- Drive continuous improvement activities
- Support and lead process improvement activities
- Conduct benchmarking studies to determine best practices / designs and future trends
- Independently determine approach and assigned tasks
- Lead and / or support groups of technicians
- Support any customer visits with facility tours and demonstration of quality controls
- Communicate efficiently throughout the shop floor and with own and customer's management
- Comply with the Health, Safety and Environmental Policies
Requirements and Qualifications :
4 year college degree or 5 years equivalent experienceKnowledge of ISO 9001 and IATF 16949Strong knowledge of Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), Production Part Approval Process (PPAP), Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA)3-5 years experience of working in Quality Assurance or ObtentionTechnical writing experience preferredExercise substantial initiative / judgement in work methods and interpreting goalsWork independently and is reviewed infrequently with minimal supervisionKnowledge of quality systems and measurementKnowledge of MetrologyUnderstanding of engineering drawings and manufacturing processesAbility to work in a diverse and dynamic environmentPlanning and prioritizing activitiesGood communication and interpersonal skillsNegotiation skillsAbility to present data effectivelyStrong problem-solving skillsTeam working skillsStrong Analytical skillsRelevant manufacturing / engineering degree preferredExperience of dealing with customers and suppliersOEM Supplier Portal experienceFamiliarity with compliances and legal requirements of automotive seating regulationsProficient in use of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.Experience in PLEX ERP software system is desired.
