Plasma Table Operator

SUMMARY :
We are currently seeking a Plasma Table Operator to join our metal fabrication team. The ideal candidate will have experience operating CNC plasma cutting equipment to cut sheet metal and plate materials according to specifications. This position is critical to maintaining our high standards of precision and efficiency in custom manufacturing. Candidates with additional experience in paint finishing, insulation finishing, and operating equipment such as a Cincinnati press brake and Hurco machinery will be strongly preferred.
KEY DELIVERABLES (ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES) :
Operate and maintain CNC plasma cutting table (Torchmate Table).
Load and unload sheet metal and plate onto cutting table.
Read and interpret blueprints, CAD drawings, and cut lists.
Adjust machine settings for material type and thickness.
Monitor cutting process for accuracy, quality, and consistency.
Perform basic machine maintenance and troubleshoot minor issues.
Use hand tools and measuring instruments (tape measure, calipers, etc.) to inspect parts.
Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
Collaborate with fabrication and production teams to meet deadlines.
Follow all safety and shop floor procedures.
Assist in related fabrication tasks as assigned.
Paint Finishing : Experience prepping and applying industrial coatings or finishes.
Insulation Finishing : Knowledge of cutting, fitting, and applying industrial insulation.
Cincinnati Press Brake : Ability to set up and operate press brakes to bend and form metal.
Hurco Machine Operation : Familiarity with Hurco CNC machines for machining operations.
Willing to be cross trained in a variety of fabrication and machine operating :
Seam welding
Burn table
The plate roll
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE :
Required :
High school diploma or GED (Technical school a plus)
2+ years of experience operating plasma cutting equipment
Ability to lift up to 50-75 lbs. and stand for extended periods
Strong attention to detail and quality control
Safety-first mindset in a manufacturing environment
Ability to read technical drawings and blueprints
Familiarity with metal types (mild steel, stainless, aluminum) and thicknesses
Strong attention to detail and quality
Self-motivated with good time management skills
Operate a forklift (or willing to be trained)
Technical school a plus.
Familiarity with metal types, gauges, and properties.
Experience using CAD / CAM software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or similar).
Experience in a job shop or custom fabrication environment.
Welding or other metalworking experience is a bonus.
Basic understanding of G-code or CNC programming a plus
Knows what G-code is regarding CNC programming.
Experience in the following preferred :
Read and interpret complex fabrication drawings, blueprints, and welding symbols.
Fit, tack, and weld components to specified tolerances and dimensions.
Fabricate components using various hand and power tools, layout equipment, and jigs / fixtures.
Perform quality inspections on completed welds, ensuring compliance with internal and external standards.
Maintain welding equipment, ensuring machines are in proper working condition and configured for optimal weld quality.
Assist in designing and fabricating custom jigs or fixtures when needed.
Follow all safety protocols and maintain a clean, organized work area.
Collaborate with engineering, quality control, and fellow fabricators to resolve design or fabrication challenges.
Operate fabrication machines such as press brakes, saws, shears, and grinders as needed.
Work with minimal supervision, demonstrating strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
Install and repair metal frameworks, structural supports, platforms, and piping.
Perform quality checks to ensure welds meet required specifications and standards.
Operate forklifts, cranes, and other lifting devices to move heavy components.
Install insulation around pipes, tanks, vessels, and ductwork to control temperature and reduce energy loss.
Apply weatherproof jacketing and sealants for outdoor or corrosive environments.
Remove and replace damaged or outdated insulation materials.
Ensure all installations meet regulatory codes and safety standards.
Familiarity with industrial insulation practices and materials.
Strong mechanical aptitude and physical stamina.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS :
Some of the typical physical demands used in performing tasks associated with this position include but are not limited to :
Frequent exposure to dust, noise, and smells,
Employees must be in good general health with good mental focus, agility, balance, and vision (including close vision work, depth perception, and peripheral vision)
Pulling, pushing, reaching, climbing, kneeling, crawling, significant finger, hand manipulation, and standing for extended amounts of time.
Must be able to regularly lift and / or move up to 25-50 pounds, frequently lift and / or move items weighing 50-75 pounds with either teammate or mechanical assistance.
Position will involve exposure to heavy steel fabrication, welding, painting, and assembly environment.
May have exposure to all weather and temperature variations.
