Laborer II
Harris County Flood Control District is seeking qualified candidates for the role of Laborer II.
The Laborer II will be responsible for performing physical labor at various construction sites and operating small engines, power tools, and hand tools to construct, repair, or perform maintenance to channels / bayous within Harris County.
Essential Functions and Duties :
- Perform manual work in preparing surfaces and mixing concrete for the concrete pour.
- Maintain, clean, and prepare the construction site to eliminate possible hazards.
- Assist with constructing forms, placing rebar, pouring, finishing concrete structures, building, or repairing manholes and inlets, and installing corrugated metal pipe outfalls.
- Assist with the installation of signs, gates, and bollards.
Equipment Operation & Maintenance
Operate small engines, attachments, power tools, and hand tools for channel and bayou maintenance.Remove debris and clear drifts from channels using small engine equipment and non-powered hand tools.Assist with the evacuation of other equipment that has become disabled.Inspect County equipment and vehicles for safety and compliance before operation.Wash County vehicles and equipment. Clean shop, fleet parking area, and laydown yard.Load and unload equipment and construction materials on / off trailers and rollback trucks.Stock and inventory County trucks, trailers, and equipment with tools and materials.Environmental & Site Clearing
Clear trees, rocks, and any other large obstacles from the County rights-of-way.Prune limbs for access to equipment.Traffic & Vehicle Operations
Flag traffic to ingress and egress jobsites. Act as a spotter for drivers / operators.Drive County vehicles to and from job sites.Training & Administrative Support

Education :
High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalentExperience :
One (1) year of experience as a laborerLicensure :
Valid Class "C" Texas Driver's LicenseKnowledge Skills, and Abilities :
Must be able to read and understand written instructions, e.g., maps, policies, procedures, operating instructions, safety notices, safety cautions / warnings, maps, traffic signs, operating instructions, and work procedures.Good verbal & written communication skills.Can effectively communicate with coworkers and the public.Familiar with Microsoft Outlook.Ability to work well with a team in a field environment.Can work independently with limited to no supervision.NOTE : Qualifying education, experience, knowledge, and skills must be documented on your job application.
