About Arts for Learning Maryland

Arts for Learning Maryland (formerly Young Audiences of Maryland) is devoted to enriching the lives and education of Maryland's youth through educational and culturally diverse arts programs. Through Arts for Learning, professional teaching artists from all disciplines partner with educators, schools, and school districts to provide on average over 560,000 hours of learning in, through, and about the arts to more than 155,000 Maryland students annually.

Position Overview

In January 2022, the U.S. Department of Education awarded Arts for Learning Maryland a five-year grant to partner with Prince George's County Public Schools (PGCPS) for a research study : Start With the Art : Arts Integration + Co-Teaching . This transformative project examines how co-teaching and arts integration can increase academic achievement and foster socioemotional development in elementary students.

Now in its final year of data collection, the project pairs teaching artists with classroom teachers to co-plan and co-teach arts-integrated lessons aligned to the PGCPS curriculum.

Responsibilities

Training Requirements :

• Attend a pre-program training workshop in October.
• Participate in four (4) Saturday half-day professional development sessions during the school year.

Program Responsibilities :

Note : This may occur multiple times per day for teachers with more than one section of a subject.

Compensation

EIR Teaching Artists receive $500 per program day , with an expected daily commitment of 5 on-site hours. Teaching Artists will receive $50 per hour (up to 4 hours) for attending in person Saturday PD sessions.

While compensation is fixed, artists are required to track their time by hour in our system for administrative purposes. Program dates, daily schedules, and time-tracking details will be confirmed prior to the start of the program.
