Overview
Assistant Consultant, Ports and Marine Engineering. This position can be based out of Irvine-CA, San Diego-CA, and Portland-OR. Provides engineering support to other technical staff, engineers, and project managers for the development, design, construction, and inspection of structures and facilities for port, marine, and intermodal rail terminal projects in the public and private sector; facilities may include piers, wharves, port and upland marine terminals, seawalls, dry docks, marinas and other nearshore / offshore facilities. Delivers work products at a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards for design, safety, and functionality.

Responsibilities
- With minimal supervision, assist with collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from the physical work site, survey data, technical reports and drawings, and other data matrices for project development, design, and construction.
- Assist with the development of project design requirements, while incorporating marine-practice engineering standards and specifications.
- Assist with identification of project site, design and construction related risks and providing input on mitigation activities.
- Write technical reports, generating complete and concise documentation of findings, using sketches, calculations, Excel spreadsheets, technical drawings, and other engineering software.
- Prepare presentations to communicate findings and recommendations to internal and external team members as well as clients.
- Work with cross-functional teams in executing project work, collaborating with other engineers and multidisciplinary teams on Federal, State, regional, and locally funded projects.
- Participate in site visits and inspections to gain practical insights into maritime construction processes.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
- Complete all assigned trainings.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Qualifications
Required QualificationsBachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from ABET-accredited program.0 to 1 year of experience; prior engineering internship experiences.Strong interpersonal and communication skills for interacting with engineering and non-engineering audiences.Capable self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization in a dynamic environment; ability to work independently or as part of a team.Basic proficiency with technical writing, engineering software / tools, and fundamentals including statics and problem-solving; analytical mindset with sound judgment.Experience with AutoCAD and SAP2000 or similar tools.Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and adherence to health, safety, and harassment policies.Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.Preferred Qualifications1 to 3 years of relevant post-education experience with exposure to ports and marine structures (rehabilitation and new design).EIT Certification.Experience with REVIT and MathCAD and other similar software.Active participation in local professional practice organizations.Familiarity with marine and coastal engineering principles, practices and regulations and design / build processes.Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.Other
