Description :
The Registered Nurse (RN) plans and provides comprehensive nursing care.
This includes executing orders from Licensed Independent Providers, dispensing medications, and assisting in examinations and treatments.
The RN applies nursing and supervisory techniques required in the care and treatment of patients.
Technical and clinical procedures will be performed within the scope of education and licensure.
Appropriate nursing skills will be applied in the care of patients.
The RN will attend sick call to see patients, prepare a list for examination, and prepare the examining room and equipment.
Pill call will be operated, medications dispensed, and documentation completed as required.
The RN will call Licensed Independent Providers for medication and treatment orders or in emergencies.
Examine and assess newly admitted patients with illnesses or injuries.
Refer patients to emergency rooms or facilities as necessary.
Perform emergency procedures as needed and notify Licensed Independent Providers for treatment orders.
Assist in coordinating professional medical services provided by contract personnel.
Monitor hospitalizations for early releases when appropriate.
Provide guidance and supervision to nursing care from licensed vocational / practical nursing staff and non-licensed medical staff.
Maintain a good working relationship with all facility staff and healthcare personnel.
Utilize established policies and procedures in decision-making but exercise independent judgment as needed.
Regularly evaluate the provision of medical services to prevent misuse or duplication.
Maintain confidentiality of all medical records.
Assist with the review of medical files to ensure documentation is complete.
Monitor potential catastrophic illnesses closely.
Audit pharmacy use for adherence to formulary as required.
Comply with all applicable pharmacy laws, especially regarding controlled substances.
Observe and document patient behavior.
Inspect medical units to eliminate contraband items and store or dispose of supplies safely.
Provide health counseling and education on an individual or group basis.
Assist in preparing and maintaining various records, reports, and logs.
Read, analyze, and comprehend medical and technical procedures as well as legal documents.
Review and respond to lawsuits when necessary.
Facilitate accreditation of the medical program by providing approved medical services.
Prepare accident reports as required by policies and take action in emergencies.
