Graduate from an accredited college, university, or nursing program with a degree / diploma in nursing.
Description :
The Registered Nurse (RN) plans and provides comprehensive nursing care.
This includes executing orders from Licensed Independent Providers.
The RN will dispense and administer medications and assist Licensed Independent Providers in examinations and treatment of patients.
Nursing and supervisory techniques are applied in the care, treatment, and referrals of inmates / residents.
All technical and clinical procedures are performed within the scope of education and licensure.
Appropriate nursing skills are applied in the care and treatment of inmates / residents.
The RN will attend sick calls with the physician to see inmates / residents.
Preparation of a list of inmates / residents to be examined is required.
The RN will prepare the examining room and equipment.
Responsibilities include operating pill call, dispensing medication, and documenting as per applicable policies and procedures.
The RN will communicate with Licensed Independent Providers for medication and treatment orders and other emergencies.
Assessment of new inmates / residents with illnesses or injuries is performed.
Referrals to emergency rooms or other appropriate healthcare facilities are made when required.
Emergency procedures are performed as needed and the Licensed Independent Provider is notified for treatment orders.
The RN will assist in coordinating professional medical services provided by contract personnel.
Additional responsibilities include :
Monitoring inmate / resident inpatient hospitalizations for early releases when appropriate.
Providing guidance, supervision, and monitoring of nursing care provided by licensed vocational / practical nursing staff and non-licensed medical staff.
Maintaining a good working relationship with facility staff, nursing staff, and contract providers.
Utilizing established corporate and facility policies and procedures in decision-making.
Evaluating the provision of medical services to prevent inappropriate use or duplication.
Maintaining security and confidentiality of all medical records.
Assisting with the review of medical files to ensure all services are documented.
Monitoring any potential catastrophic illnesses.
Auditing pharmacy use for adherence to formulary as directed.
Complying with all applicable pharmacy laws, especially those related to controlled substances.
Observing and recording inmate / resident behavior.
Inspecting the medical unit for contraband items and securely storing or disposing of supplies and equipment.
Providing health counseling and health education on an individual or group basis as required.
Assisting in preparing and maintaining a variety of operational records, reports, and logs using appropriate grammar.
Reading, analyzing, comprehending, and interpreting medical and technical procedures.
Reviewing and responding to lawsuits in coordination with corporate counsel.
Facilitating accreditation of the medical program by providing required medical services.
Preparing and disseminating safety and accident reports as required by policies and procedures.
Taking appropriate action in cases of serious incidents and emergencies.
