Job Summary / Technical Knowledge
- General knowledge of a variety of coating types and blast media
- Knowledge of conventional air-operated sprayers as well as airless sprayers
- Read, interpret, and follow blueprints and sketches to understand the specifications of a project
- Strong aptitude and attention to detail
- Figure material take-offs on drawings for required material quantities
- Ability to use painting equipment
Job Proficiency
Sandblast ships, using spray gun and sandblasting equipment to clean grease, dirt, old paint, and rust from shipsVisually inspect surfaces prepared for coating applicationPrepare surfaces for final coating application, through masking, degreasing, containment, power tool, thinner wiping, brush and rolling, spray painting and blastingApply coatings to surfaces by use of brush, roller, conventional spray, airless, thermal spray and other specialty coating applicationsClean and store paint tools and equipment after useMaintain a clean and organized jobsite free from any unnecessary hazards associated with the work being performed by a paint crew.Measure and mix paint in accordance with specificationsPerform general housekeeping and all assigned duties on a jobsiteStencil lettering and other identifying information according to specificationsDisassembles paint and sandblasting equipment and cleans equipment, using solvent, wire brushes, and dry clothCan execute light to medium equipment repairs, including :Repair of air & airless gunsReplace or repair sandblast valvesMake minor repairs on blast controlsRepair sandblast hose endsChange fuel filter on compressorPreventive maintenance and fluid level check on equipmentCulture and Collaboration
Follow all shipyard safety policies, including proper use of PPE, fire prevention, and confined space protocols.Assist in the training and development of junior blast / paint techniciansCollaborate and communicate with welders, metal fitters, pipefitters, electricians, and other trades as required to complete vessel construction or repair and to maintain efficient work flowsWork independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced ship production environmentInspect all equipment dailyMaintain a clean and safe work areaMaintain a positive attitude toward customers and represent Saronic professionallyMake a personal commitment and be accountable for HSE results, driving toward the achievement of defined goalsStore and dispose of chemicals in accordance with Saronic policies and procedures and Federal, State and Local lawsBenefits
