Job Summary
The role of Community Relations Coordinator encompasses aspects of strategy, community relations, execution, and facilitation, brings an entrepreneurial spirit to their responsibilities, and is committed to innovation, creativity, and excellence. The Community Relations Coordinator develops strategy and manages programs designed to represent the National Cherry Blossom Festival favorably and make positive contributions to the community; these currently include but are not limited to City in Bloom, Cherry Picks, Hotel Program, School-based program,s and Tree Planting Program. They will develop and nurture positive relationships, serving as a Festival liaison with community individuals, organizations, local businesses, stakeholder,s and sponsors. The Community Relations Coordinator supports engagement initiatives of the Festival and acts as a representative at corporate or public events.

Key Responsibilities
- Set community relations growth goals and contribute to development of and execute strategy to attain them
- Utilize data and metrics to benchmark efforts, inform tactical decision-making, and identify prime engagement opportunities
- Establish, track, and report on engagement plans; manage progress and proactively adapt to shifts in expectations
- Fulfill benefits and obligations to participants in engagement programs
- Report on engagement programs reconciliations, including recommendations for future growth and development
- Develop and sustain productive, authentic, cross-functional relationships with existing, targeted, and interested local community groups and businesses to establish engagement opportunities
- Cultivate highly effective, deep relationships with City Council members and offices, community members, and local businesses; serve as a key point of contact; represents Festival at community, corporate and stakeholders’ events
- Manage the new prospects; maintain comprehensive / up-to-date database of prospects and participants
- Schedule and facilitate partner meetings as needed, including coordinating scheduling, assisting in the agenda creation, and follow-up actions
- Collaborate cross-departmentally with Marketing & Communications and Programming departments as needed on coordination and promotion of community relations programs; engaged other Festival team members in community relations programming
- Oversee contractors, internal staff, interns, and volunteers as needed to ensure they understand desired results, work is of high quality, on time, and within budget
- Develop and manage community relations program budgets

Engage youth with stimulating programs that connect them to the Festival, showcase its cultural and historical significance, including its ties to Japan, and inspire them to participate in Festival events.Cultivate strong partnerships with residents and community organizations to immerse them in the Festival experience, encouraging ownership and pride that drives community-led promotion and long-term support for the Festival.Maximize economic benefits for local businesses and provide opportunities to engage with a diverse audienceExpand and Deepen Year-Round Community Presence, as appropriateFor example : Lead Festival activations at community events with an evergreen activity, giveaways, etc.
As an integral part of the NCBF team, this full-time salaried exempt position participates fully in the production and execution of all Festival events. This requires flexibility to be available evenings and weekends, and to work additional hours during peak periods.
Background and Experience :
Bachelor’s degree with progressively responsible experience in community relations and / or community organizingDocumented connections to the District of Columbia, with particular work or organizing experience in one of the eight Wards of the District a plusExperience working with diverse communities, assessing community needs, and collaborating and building partnershipsExperience public speaking and delivering presentations, such as at ANC meetingsExceptional project management and organizational skills, including the ability to manage cross-department deliverables and simultaneous priorities.Experience with designing, executing, and continuously improving new initiatives, including establishing necessary systems and processes, as well as defining and monitoring key metrics to monitor and assess progress.Ability to communicate effectively – to listen, influence, motivate, and lead.Ability to communicate both orally and in writing, and to utilize tact and persuasion in gaining acceptance of the program views. Ability to interact with various types of personalities.Ability to foster positive, productive relationships, collaboratio,n and teamwork, internally and externally, among staff, board members, volunteers, partner,s and other Festival stakeholders.Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint are necessaryExperience with Monday.com and Slack are preferredMust have access to consistent and reliable transportationCOMPENSATION / BENEFITS
Salary range : $50,000 - $55,000 / year. Benefits package includes health insurance with prescription drug, dental, and eye plans (substantially underwritten by NCBF); annual and sick leave; short-term and long-term disability; life insurance; flexible spending account; 401K plan with safe harbor contributions eligible 6 months after hire; parking / transit subsidy.
