ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Site Safety & Health Officer (SSHO) is responsible for the development and / or review of the Emergency Action Plan, activity hazard analysis, amendments to the Emergency Action Plan, on site safety education, toolbox safety meetings, all around safety compliance of the project, and a proactive innovative attitude towards solving difficult site-specific safety issues. The SSHO is responsible for managing, implementing, and enforcing the project Accident Prevention Plan. The SSHO shall provide full-time on-site safety and occupational health surveillance, inspections, training, and safety enforcement.

This position will be under the direct supervision of the HSE Manager

• Provide site compliance through daily site inspections, daily safety reports and JHA’s
• Knowledge of the Project Accident Prevention Plan
• Provide onsite safety education to crew members
• Coordination of safety issues with the Quality Control Manager and Site Superintendent
• Provide management and oversight of site-specific safety activities. Examples – Changing of cutter heads, lockout / tag out activities, etc.
• Prioritization of daily tasks to maintain safety compliance and project schedule
• Demonstrate in depth knowledge of EM-385-1.1, OSHA 29 CFR 1910 and 1926
• Conduct mishap investigations and complete required accident reports
• Ensure sub-contractor compliance with safety and health requirements
• Maintain the First Aid Logs
• Maintain applicable safety reference materials on the job site
• Maintain a safety and health deficiency tracking system that monitors outstanding deficiencies until resolution
• Maintain current SDS (MSDS) list of hazardous chemicals on site
• Performs other related duties as assigned
• Participates in Safety and Environmental initiatives that will contribute to compliance of State / Federal regulations and improve existing Company programs.

The employee must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable workplace accommodation.

The individual must also be able to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to work or visit within areas where it is required. This includes hard hat, safety glasses, life vest, respirators, ear plugs, steel toed shoes, personal flotation devices (PFD’s), or other protective equipment as required by the work performed and location the work is being done.

In addition, the employee must also be capable of :

Adapting to temperature changes, outdoor conditions, and prolonged exposure to dusty, wet, or humid conditions, loud noises, and vibration.
