Under direct supervision performs a variety of tasks in support of the repairs and maintenance of the City's drainage system.
Essential Job Functions
Responsible for cleaning ditches, culverts, storm water ditches, and drains by shoveling and / or hand digging out the ditches, culverts and inlets. Digs up and repairs broken pipes. Flags traffic in construction zones. Works on city constructions projects. Maintains, places, and removes street signs and barricades. Assists in hauling materials and operating machinery. Maintains Streets and Drainage Division equipment. Keeps record of general maintenance inspection on all equipment and vehicles including the inside of the vehicle, the outside and under the hood. Conducts maintenance and checks equipment weekly. Maintains report of work activity on a daily basis. Digs holes and installs metal / wooden post to repair and guardrails adjacent to drainage structures. Sands streets during freezing weather; installs and maintains high water barricades. Assists Fire, Police, and Water Departments in emergencies, i.e. after accidents, traffic control, removal of property, etc. Meets and contacts citizens regarding complaints. Performs related duties and special projects as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
High School Diploma or GED. One year of related construction experience required. Ability to read street signs, maps and written orders. Ability to write and complete daily reports. Ability to compute time sheets. Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Ability to interact and get along with other crew members and the general public. Ability to follow safety procedures.
Other Requirements
Valid Class "C" driver's license required. Valid Commercial Class "A" Driver's License (CDL) with Tanker endorsement is preferred or ability to obtain one with six (6) months of employment required. Must have and maintain a good driving record in accordance with the driving standards as established by the City of Rowlett. Must report all traffic citations to the departmental Director or the designee within two working days of receipt. Must reside within a 1 hour response time from the Public Works Building; employee will have (6) months from employment date in which to relocate. Must be able to work holidays and weekends as needed.
