Join Our Team as a Senior Accountant – Sales Tax & General Accounting

Location : Sioux Falls, SD

As a Senior Accountant , you’ll take ownership of multistate sales and use tax compliance, oversee core accounting functions, and lead a team of AP, AR, and staff accountants. Your work will directly support financial integrity, process excellence, and the continued growth of all Direct Companies divisions.

What We’re Looking For

Education : Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (CPA or CPA-track preferred)

Experience : 5+ years of progressive accounting experience with a strong focus on sales / use tax compliance

Leadership : Demonstrated experience supervising or leading accounting teams

Knowledge : Deep understanding of GAAP, multistate tax regulations, and internal controls

Technical Skills : Proficiency with ERP and accounting systems

Attributes : High attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and ability to manage multiple priorities

Collaboration : Strong communication skills and a team-first mindset

Key Responsibilities

Manage preparation and filing of multistate sales / use tax returns and ensure compliance

Oversee month-end close processes including journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, and depreciation

Lead and support the AP, AR, and Staff Accountant teams

Review financial entries and uphold GAAP standards

Strengthen internal controls and drive accounting process improvements

Collaborate with Sales, Procurement, and Operations on tax-related matters

Assist with audit preparation , variance analysis, and budgeting

Support ongoing ERP enhancements and system optimizations

Ensure consistent application of accounting policies across all divisions

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

Timely and accurate sales / use tax filings

Efficient and high-quality month-end close and reconciliations

Accuracy and accountability across AP, AR, and staff accounting

Team development and cross-training success

Demonstrated process improvements and audit-readiness

Effective cross-departmental collaboration
