Minimum Qualifications

Seven years of professional experience in natural science or education, three of which must have been in the management of camp facilities, nature centers, or environmental / conservation education centers with a focus on youth programming.
Substitution of a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and three years of experience in the management of camp facilities, nature centers, or environmental / conservation education centers with a focus on youth programming, OR
Substitution of a masters degree from an accredited college or university and two years of experience in the management of camp facilities, nature centers, or environmental / conservation education centers with a focus on youth programming, OR
A doctorate from an accredited college or university can substitute for the required experience.

Requirements

Possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver License.

Statewide travel is required to perform the duties of this position (1-25%).

Full-time, 40 hours / week; 8 : 00 AM to 5 : 00 PM (ET); Monday to Friday. May require work time outside of regularly scheduled hours over 40 hours per week, including evenings and weekends.

Employment in this position is contingent upon a satisfactory criminal history check (fingerprint-based) in accordance with Chapter 435, Florida Statutes.

Within one year of employment, successful completion and certification in First Aid / CPR / AED, FWC Trailer Training, Boater Safety Certification, Hunter Safety Certification, ACA Kayak Level 1, and USA Archery Level I.

Tallahassee (Leon County) Area residency preferred, but other Florida locations may be considered.

Responsibilities

This full-time Selected Exempt Service position is based in the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission's (FWC) Office of Conservation Engagement and Education's (CEE) Florida Youth Conservation Centers Network (FYCCN) and will serve in a new position as the Conservation Center Program Administrator.

Serves in a critical leadership position in the CEE Director's office;

Works with the CEE Director to independently identify and resolve operational and management matters;

Directly supervises up to 8 statewide staff and serves as statewide project lead over FYCCN Youth Conservation Centers;

Conducts organizational studies and evaluates work plans to ensure workplace efficiency and effectiveness;

Examines, organizes, and plans the most effective programmatic linkages for a varied group of interested parties, constituents and partners;

Assists staff with identifying their training needs, knowledge, and abilities;

Develops and updates policies, procedures, training processes;

Ensures program staff compliance with FWC training requirements, policies, and procedures;

Identifies and prioritizes workloads and conducts on-site observations to ascertain project functions, work performed, methods, and equipment used;

Conducts routine meetings to keep Youth Conservation Center staff informed about important topics and stay connected;

Serves as a CEE and / or FYCCN liaison on various conservation education, strategic planning, and policy / business teams;

Assists with outreach and recruitment strategies;

Provides technical assistance, consultative services and direction for development, implementation and expansion of youth conservation initiatives in state agencies and local governments;

Ensures FYCCN Youth Conservation Centers comply with ACA performance standards and maintain accreditation;

Provides guidance and input on conservation education curriculum for FYCCN Youth Conservation Centers and school programs;

Administrative Duties : Attend staff meetings, complete and submit required reports, participate in professional development courses, and complete timesheets in a timely and thorough manner. Ensure files and documentation are complete, accurate, and confidentially maintained. Assist with large event planning if needed. Perform other duties as required.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

Understands customer service and public administration principles;

Knowledge of policies and practices involved in personnel / human resource functions;

Knowledge of American Camp Association policies and guidelines;

Professional experience with youth summer camps;

Ability to determine work priorities, assign tasks, and evaluate performance;

Skilled in operational planning, delegation and collaborative team building, and public speaking;

Ability to communicate clearly, verbally, and in writing;

Skilled in using Microsoft Word, Excel, Teams, Outlook, and PowerPoint;

Knowledge of MyFloridaMarketPlace (MFMP), P-card Works, Statewide Travel Management System (STMS), and People First;

Knowledge of or ability to learn finance and budget related processes, such as legislative budget requests, procurement, construction, and budget management;

Ability to be a team player and work integrally with stakeholders, partners, and government agencies;

Ability to deal professionally and sensitively with different audiences;

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others, both internally and externally;

Ability to work independently, take initiative, and work creatively;

Ability to adjust to and use new approaches in the performance of duties;

Ability to use critical thinking skills;

Compile, collect, and organize data;

Analyze and solve problems;

Knowledge of fishing, fishing equipment, paddle craft, and boating;

Knowledge of use of firearms, archery equipment, hunting, and shooting sports;

Experience in volunteer management;

Ability to travel, including overnight;

Ability to enter and exit a vehicle or / and vessel without assistance;

Ability to lift 35 pounds;

Ability to withstand exposure to adverse weather conditions.
