Description :

The Registered Nurse (RN) plans and provides comprehensive nursing care.

This includes executing Licensed Independent Provider orders, dispensing medications, and assisting in examinations and treatment of patients.

The RN applies nursing and supervisory techniques required in the care and treatment of individuals.

Performs all technical and clinical procedures within the scope of education and licensure.

Responsible for applying appropriate nursing skills in the treatment of individuals.

Attends sick call with the physician to see individuals and prepares the examining room and equipment.

Operates pill call, dispenses medication, and documents as required by policies and procedures.

Calls Licensed Independent Providers for medication and treatment orders, and responds to emergencies.

Examines and assesses new individuals with illnesses or injuries and refers them to appropriate healthcare facilities when required.

Performs emergency procedures as needed and notifies Licensed Independent Provider for treatment orders.

Assists in coordinating professional medical services provided by contract personnel.

Maintains a good working relationship with facility staff and nursing staff.

Utilizes established policies and procedures in decision-making while using sound independent judgment in performing duties.

Regularly evaluates the provision of medical services to prevent inappropriate use or duplication of services.

Maintains absolute security and confidentiality of all medical records.

Assists in reviewing medical files to ensure all provided services are documented.

Closely monitors all potential catastrophic illnesses.

Audits pharmacy use for adherence to formulary as directed or required.

Complies with applicable pharmacy laws, especially those covering controlled substances.

Observes and records patient behavior.

Inspects the medical unit for items that could be used as contraband, ensuring secure storage or safe disposal of supplies and equipment.

Provides health counseling and education on an individual or group basis as required.

Assists in preparing and maintaining a variety of records, reports, and logs using appropriate grammar.

Reads, analyzes, comprehends, and interprets medical and technical procedures, governmental regulations, legal documents, and non-legal documents.

Reviews, processes, and responds to lawsuits and attends court hearings when necessary.

Evaluates and recommends physical safety requirements for a safe working environment.

Facilitates the accreditation of the medical program by providing the required level of efficiency and approved medical services.

Prepares and disseminates safety and accident reports as required by policies and procedures.

Takes appropriate action in cases of serious incidents and emergencies.

Coordinates the movement of individuals to and from different areas for medical treatment.

Performs searches for objects capable of concealing contraband and detects and identifies objects.

Engages in functions in confined areas, including working rotating shifts.

Takes appropriate actions to prevent or diffuse potentially disruptive situations.

Performs rescue functions during accidents, emergencies, and disasters.

Administers basic emergency medical aid and evacuates individuals from confined areas.
