About the Opportunity
A well-established financial institution with a strong presence across West Michigan is seeking an experienced Senior Portfolio Manager – Commercial Banking Team Lead .
This is a high-impact role overseeing a sizable commercial loan portfolio and leading a team of Portfolio Managers and Credit Analysts. The ideal candidate is a seasoned commercial banker with formal credit training, strong analytical skills, and a collaborative leadership style.
You’ll work directly with senior lenders, manage complex relationships, and help mentor and grow the next generation of banking professionals.
Responsibilities
Lead, coach, and develop a team of Portfolio Managers and Credit Analysts to strengthen underwriting quality and portfolio performance.
Oversee renewals, covenant testing, risk rating, and exception management for a portfolio exceeding $500MM.
Review and refine credit presentations to ensure sound structure, risk mitigation, and policy compliance.
Directly manage a small book of complex and strategic commercial relationships.
Partner with commercial lenders to balance new business development with ongoing portfolio management.
Serve as a liaison between credit and lending teams to align risk and relationship goals.
Contribute to process improvement, staff development, and portfolio growth initiatives.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, or Accounting (Master’s preferred).
Formal credit training and deep understanding of commercial underwriting and risk management.
10+ years of commercial banking experience with emphasis on credit, lending, or portfolio management.
Prior experience leading or mentoring a credit or lending team strongly preferred.
Excellent communication, analytical, and organizational skills.
Proven ability to manage complex relationships and collaborate within a team environment.
Compensation & Benefits
Competitive base salary : $155,000–$165,000 plus annual performance bonus.
