Primary Purpose

Sr. Systems Engineer is an advanced role that utilizes experience and skills to support and optimize the Exelon IT organization by providing expert technical guidance, direction and insight to project managers and stakeholders regarding IT system solutions and improvements being deployed within the enterprise environment. Utilizes expert & skillful abilities to optimize and maintain high priority and complex IT system initiatives and project solutions to include both cloud, non-cloud and hybrid cloud models.

Leads the design and evolution of Exelon's data center infrastructure to support enterprise-wide applications, energy systems, and operational technologies.

The IT Sr. Systems Engineer provides technical leadership to support delivery and maintenance of IT solutions supporting Exelon. This role will evaluate IT infrastructure and application solutions and make recommendations for supporting and optimizing application and data workloads within these hosting models,

including

data center expansion, migration, and modernization projects.

Sr. Systems Engineer demonstrates expertise for monitoring, configuration and maintenance, of current hosting services to support virtual hosting technologies, software tools and to

lead and support all data center projects.

This role will work in collaboration with other IT teams, leadership, enterprise business partners, vendors and project / design teams, in all aspects of the secure & reliable hosting of applications throughout Exelon's large & complex enterprise and real-time operational environments, including a

ssessing capacity and performance of existing data centers to absorb workloads.

Note : This is an onsite position. Employees are required to be in office at least 5 days per week.

Must reside & sit within Exelon / ComEd service territories in the Joliet area. No relocation is available.

Primary Duties

Establish evaluation, testing, lab and mockup solutions as needed. Serve as a senior resource and mentor in assigned daily support and deployments to operations and ensure solutions meet business requirements and established metrics (SLAs). Responsible for operating and maintaining complex solutions at the component level, including hands-on configuration, leading troubleshooting efforts and optimization of metrics for cloud based / hybrid / on-prem services. (45%)

Support projects, planning, maintenance and operations. Consults with leadership, project teams, application / service support teams and end users to optimize availability and performance analysis for potential changes related to both cloud, non-cloud and hybrid cloud models. Provide technical expertise and guidance for maintaining performance and reliability of key IT solutions. (20%)

Work closely with leadership and the team to develop future improvement plans, resource requirements, migrations strategies, and project schedules to improve service delivery and efficiency. Understand other technologies and service offerings and their impact to the delivery of cloud based / hybrid / on-prem services. (15%)

Provide feedback and guidance to leadership and peers to risks identified during business impact analysis, site risk assessments and disaster recovery planning. (15%)

Maintain technical knowledge and business acumen within our own discipline or function. Coach and mentor less experienced team members, apprentices and / or interns. (5%)

24 / 7 on-call rotational duties.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Computer Networking 4 - 7 years' experience in IT infrastructure design, application design, cloud computing, disaster / recovery, or 6-9 years of relevant experience in lieu of degree.

Experience with system administration.

Demonstrated ability to design and document processes & procedures.

Experience transitioning work to operational teams

Maintained experience with the ability to design and troubleshoot Layer 1, Layer 2 and Layer 3 networks independently. Plus one of the following certifications : CDCMP, CCIE, DCCA, CompTIA Server+

Experience participating in interviews of users as part of a systems development team to gather information for analysis or technical work.

Troubleshooting & Monitoring : Solid understanding of the capabilities of standard monitoring tools. Can make informed decisions on monitoring settings such as sample size, level of criticality, and some self-healing opportunities.

Cloud Technologies : Build and maintain knowledge of new technologies or technology opportunities and assists in development of analysis of their use for business and / or IT clients

Security Basics : Ability to evaluate a solution against current security requirements and future industry trends

Scripting & Automation : Able to use PowerShell, Ansible, or another appropriate scripting tool to automate common tasks / create reports and troubleshoot issues with existing scripts

Preferred Qualifications

Master's Degree

Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.

Certification in area of expertise.

Demonstrated ability to use configuration tools and support the management of changes made to hardware, software, firmware, documentation, test, test fixtures and test documentation of an automated information system throughout the development and operational life of a system.

Proficiency to successfully demonstrate Process Improvement in practical applications of moderate difficulty.

Ensure compliance with environmental and data security regulations during decommissioning.

Consolidation Planning

Assess capacity and performance of existing data centers to absorb workloads.

Design migration paths for applications, databases, and services.

Minimize downtime and disruption during transitions.

Stakeholder Coordination

Collaborate with business units, IT operations, and cybersecurity teams.

Communicate timelines, risks, and mitigation strategies to leadership.

Manage vendors and third-party service providers involved in the transition.

Infrastructure Optimization

Reconfigure network topology, storage, and compute resources post-consolidation.

Implement automation and monitoring tools to manage consolidated environments.

Identify opportunities for cost savings and energy efficiency.

Documentation & Compliance

Maintain detailed records of decommissioned assets and migrated systems.

Ensure all changes are documented in CMDB and aligned with Exelon's ITIL practices.

Conduct post-migration audits and performance assessments.
