Emergency Communications Supervisor
Join our team as an emergency communications supervisor! The emergency communications supervisor role oversees the daily operations of the emergency services communications center on assigned shifts. Ensures accurate, timely, and professional handling of 9-1-1 emergency and non-emergency calls; provides leadership, training, and support to the team. Requires a calm, decisive professional with strong leadership skills who can maintain high performance standards in a fast-paced and high-pressure environment.
Supervises emergency communications officers and lead officer during assigned shifts.
Oversees the processing of emergency and administrative calls, including dispatch of law enforcement, fire, and EMS agencies.
Monitors and operates 9-1-1 telephone systems, radio systems, and computer aided dispatch applications to ensure rapid, accurate response.
Ensures compliance with established policies, procedures, and quality assurance standards.
Maintains communications logs, files, and records with accuracy and attention to detail.
Provides coaching, training, and corrective action as necessary to support staff performance and development.
Investigates and resolves complaints, recommends operational improvements, and contribute to policy and procedure reviews.
Actively participates in quality assurance programs, scheduled training, and operations reviews.
Supports emergency response and recovery activities.
Performs other related duties as required.
Strong understanding of the P25 radio system, radio-telephone procedures, and Pasco County's emergency communications operations.
Knowledge of county geography, road networks, and major landmarks.
Knowledge in enhanced 9-1-1 systems and computer-aided dispatch applications.
Ability to remain calm, clear, and decisive under pressure, especially in emergencies.
Skilled in conflict resolution, interpersonal communication, and team motivation.
Ability to lead with integrity, professionalism, and sound judgement.
Ability to communicate clearly in person, by phone, and over a radio.
Physical skills / working conditions : Ability to sit at a console for extended periods of time. Ability to communicate effectively using verbal, written and visual communication. Must be able to operate a keyboard to enter data into a computer. Good vision without color blindness, and excellent hearing skills required. Ability to work extended or non-standard hours as required.
Education, training and experience : Graduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma. Three (3) years of emergency communications experience in a public safety communications center. Successful completion of emergency communications officer II training or prior supervisor experience in a public safety communications center required. Preference will be given to applicants currently employed by Pasco County Emergency Communications as a lead emergency communications officer.
Licenses, certifications or registrations : Must possess a valid Florida driver's license. Must obtain FCIC / NCIC certifications within six (6) months of employment. Requires certification from the International Academy of Emergency Dispatch (IAED), Emergency Police Dispatcher (EPD), Emergency Medical Dispatcher (EMD), Emergency Fire Dispatcher (EFD) and State of Florida Public Safety Telecommunicator certification must obtain within three (3) months from date of hire.
Criminal history : An applicant who pleads guilty or nolo contendere (no contest) to, or is found guilty of any felony or guilty of a misdemeanor involving perjury or a false statement, is not eligible for employment even if the sentence was suspended or adjudication is withheld by the judge.
The department has a strict non-drug usage policy. In order to be eligible you cannot have used, tried, possessed or experimented with marijuana in the last 12 months. You must not have used, tried, possessed or experimented with any illegal drug / controlled substance, other than marijuana, in the past five years. You must not have sold or delivered any illegal drug / controlled substance at any time. Compliance with Pasco County's drug-free workplace policy required.
