Performs labor in the general maintenance and repair of buildings, systems and equipment. Work is performed under direction of a supervisor or lead worker.
- Performs general maintenance and assists with tasks in minor electrical repair, plumbing, construction, renovation, modification, installation and repair of buildings, equipment, and facilities.
- Assists in writing specifications and in preparing bids for special projects.
- Operates standard maintenance equipment, simple tools, electrical tools, and light-medium heavy equipment to perform duties.
- Installs, repairs, and maintains manual locks, door openers, closers, and hardware.
- Performs the set up and break down of meeting rooms and facilities for functions.
- Assists specified crews by working as a helper.
- Recognizes and reports safety issues to direct supervisor.
- Track and record time and materials for assigned work orders in the work management system.
- Performs other functions related to City-wide Facilities Maintenance as assigned.

Knowledge of the practices, methods, and materials used in building maintenance and repair.Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.Knowledge of the practices, methods, and materials in HVAC maintenance and repair.Skilled in troubleshooting and making repairs.Skilled in the use of small office equipment, including copy machines or multi-line telephone systems.Skilled in using computers for data entry, word processing and accounting purposes.Skilled in the use and care of tools and equipment used in the type of work outlined in the essential job duties above.Ability to organize and communicate effectively.Ability to read and follow written instructions and understand and follow oral instructions.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public.Ability to perform routine heavy manual labor as required.Education and Experience :
High School Diploma from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma is preferred.Two (2) years of experience in building maintenance and repair.(A comparable amount of relevant training, education and / or experience may be substituted for the above qualifications.)
Licenses and Certifications (Preferred) :
Must possess a valid State of Florida Drivers' License.Must submit to, and receive clearance from, a State and National Criminal Background Investigation in compliance with the City of North Port Police Accreditation Hiring Standards.Bucket-Truck Operation certifications.EPA 608 Technical Certification (HVAC Refrigerant).Emergency Response Responsibility
Every City employee has emergency response responsibilities, though not every position will require routine assignments during an emergency event. All employees are subject to recall around the clock for emergency response operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the normal work location, and may include duties other than those specified in the employee's official job description. Assignments in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature, with little advance notice, and may require employees to relocate to emergency sites with physically and operationally challenging conditions.
