Role Description
Barton LLP is seeking a skilled Bookkeeper with a strong background in Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR) to join our growing legal team. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, detail-oriented environment and understands the unique financial workflows of a law firm.
You’ll play a critical role in maintaining the firm’s financial health by ensuring accurate and timely handling of payments, billing, and collections.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day bookkeeping for the firm, including accounts payable and receivable
- Process e-Billing through client portals (e.g., Legal Tracker, CounselLink, Tymetrix, Collaborati, or similar)
- Ensure billing compliance with client-specific guidelines and resolve rejected invoices
- Support attorneys and billing staff with billing corrections and adjustments
- Assist with collections, vendor payments, and expense tracking
- Record journal entries and maintain the general ledger
- Prepare and file 1099s and assist with year-end closing
- Assist COO with administrative task
- Maintain compliance with firm accounting policies and trust account regulations
- Collaborate with attorneys, billing staff, and the firm administrator to ensure accurate financial data
- Assist with preparation for external CPA reviews or audits
Qualifications
2+ years of bookkeeping experience (law firm or professional services firm preferred)Proficiency in QuickBooks, Excel, and legal billing / accounting softwareStrong knowledge of AP / AR processes and general accounting principlesSolid understanding of trust / IOLTA accountingMeticulous attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skillsAbility to handle confidential information with discretionStrong communication skills and a proactive approach to problem-solvingAssociate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (preferred but not required)Company contribution towards benefits including health and 401K Plans.
