The Fleet Technician ensures that all repairs and maintenance of equipment are performed in compliance with the Company’s safety standards and applicable federal and state regulations and is responsible for all equipment, trucks and bodywork, including, but not limited to, hydraulic, electrical, brakes, heating and air conditioning system maintenance and repair.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintains expert knowledge of, and advanced working proficiency in, the following vehicle components and systems, with the ability to perform complex repair maintenance functions, both on-site and on the road
- Chassis component repair and maintenance
- Multi, lift axles
- Brakes
- PTO components
- USDOT inspections
- Refuse bodies, including control, hydraulic and electrical systems; and air and hydraulic braking systems
- Engine repair and maintenance
- Suspension, drivetrain, and steering systems
- Heating and air conditioning systems
- Occasional yard equipment repair
- Performs repair diagnostics
- Safely provides road service when necessary
- Identifies the source of malfunctions using a variety of electronic tools
- Work effectively with team members at all levels of the company as a positive, professional example
- Represent the company in a professional and ethical manner consistent with our mission statement
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements : Education
High School Diploma or equivalentAssociates or higher degree in Applied Science or a Mechanical fieldASE Truck CertifiedState certifications in steering, brakes, and suspensionWork Experience
5+ years in maintenance, preferred shop environmentSkills and Knowledge
Knowledge of brake and other truck systemsKnowledge of hydraulics and pneumatics is a mustKnowledge of electrical systems, including computerized induction / ignition systemsSkilled in the use of power tools, hand tools, and diagnostic equipmentSkilled in acetylene and electric arc weldingSkilled in the operation of Class 8 trucks, various vehicles and equipment for diagnostics purposesValid CDLA license is a plusFabrication experience is a plusAbility to perform inspections and repairs without supervisionAbility to operate lugger, hook truck, and rolloff equipmentAbility to communicate in English both written and verballyAbility to comprehend and follow written procedures, container labels and all safety precautionsAttention to detailReliable attendanceValid drivers’ licenseWORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed in an indoor and outdoor shop environment. Must be able to work in all weather conditions
