Hemphill Contracting LLC is seeking a skilled and dependable Production Mini Excavator Operator to join our team in Northwest Arkansas. This position involves operating a mini excavator to complete site utility and excavation projects with a strong focus on production pace, accuracy, and safety. The right candidate will be able to read plans, follow specifications, and work effectively with other crew members to complete jobs on time and within quality standards. The Production Mini Excavator Operator will be responsible for trenching, digging, backfilling, and related tasks associated with underground utility installation such as water, sewer, electrical conduit, and storm drainage systems. Operators must be able to perform work around existing utilities with care, follow trench safety guidelines, and adapt to different soil and site conditions. Daily responsibilities also include conducting equipment inspections, monitoring fluid levels, greasing fittings, and reporting any maintenance issues to supervision. This position requires a strong work ethic and a focus on keeping production moving. Applicants should be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where schedules matter and teamwork is essential. Reliability, attention to detail, and safety awareness are key traits for success in this role. Duties include but are not limited to : Operating mini excavators to dig trenches, place pipe or conduit, and backfill in accordance with specifications. Working with ground crews to set grades, place bedding material, and ensure safe trench conditions. Reading and interpreting construction drawings, layouts, and utility markings. Following instructions from foremen and project managers to meet daily production goals. Performing daily equipment checks, basic maintenance, and keeping machines clean. Adhering to OSHA, city, and company safety standards at all times. Minimum requirements : At least 2 years of experience as a mini excavator operator in construction or utility work. Ability to operate equipment efficiently at production pace. Knowledge of trench safety standards including slopes, shoring, and bedding. Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation. Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions. Preferred qualifications : Experience with underground utility installation including water services, electrical conduit, or storm drain. Familiarity with CCEC, BEUD, or similar utility specifications in Northwest Arkansas. Ability to operate other equipment such as skid steers or backhoes. This is a full-time position with competitive pay based on experience and production ability. Work schedules are weather-dependent, with the majority of work performed Monday through Friday and occasional weekends or evenings as needed. Overtime opportunities are available.
