American Traveler seeks an experienced RN for a 13-week Emergency Department position in an acute care setting in California, requiring a CA RN license and current ACLS, BLS, PALS, NIHSS, and COVID vaccination.
\n \n Responsibilities\n
Work in the Emergency Department of an acute care hospital14-bed ER with a 3-bed fast track area and an average daily census of 65 patientsCommon cases involve elderly patients, abdominal pain, chest pain, orthopedic injuries, minor lacerations, and psychiatric patients who may stay in the ER for extended periodsNo trauma cases; patients are stabilized and transferred as neededPatient ratio is 1 : 4Shifts are 12 hours with mid-shift options (including day and evening shifts such as 6 : 45a, 9-9, 12-12, 2-2, 6 : 45p)Every other weekend and rotating holiday coverage with permanent staff (2 out of 3 holidays)Floating required to another local ER as neededOrientation includes two floor-specific shifts plus 12 orientation hoursUses Cerner EMRVentilator management requiredPhillips monitor system with nurses responsible for printing and signing off EKG stripsClinical tech and unit secretary / clerk support provided; security available in the lobby nearbyNo IV Team; respiratory therapy and pharmacy available 24 / 7Travelers may triage if experienced and may perform conscious sedation upon successful completion of competencyScrub color is navyInvolved and supportive unit manager in a traveler-friendly environmentMust be adaptable and able to integrate quickly into a new teamTravelers may only take conscious sedation cases after passing the required competency assessmentFloat to sister facility ER as neededHoliday and weekend work required per department rotationFirst-time travelers are welcome to applyCandidates may not have been employed (full time, part time, or PRN) by any facility associated with CommonSpirit, including CHI and / or Dignity, within the past year; PRN through outside agencies is acceptable\n \n Requirements\n
Active CA RN license, must be in hand at the time of consideration (pending licenses not accepted)Minimum of 2 years recent Emergency Department RN experience requiredCurrent certifications required : BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS, and COVID vaccinationExperience with Cerner charting system preferredAbility to manage vents and provide care for psych patientsTwo professional references : one supervisor reference from the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from the last 3 years, including employment dates and eligibility for rehireCopy of driver's license required for consideration\n Benefits\n
