Electrical Distribution Project Engineer
HDR is seeking an Electrical Distribution Project Engineer to join our growing Power Delivery team. Opportunities are available in multiple locations across the United States (see list in the original description).
Primary Responsibilities
- Prepare all technical aspects and deliverables for the conceptual and detailed design of overhead and underground electric power distribution systems, distribution system planning, lighting design, grounding and lightning protection.
- Coordinate the preparation of construction packages for overhead and underground distribution lines, including plan and profile drawings, structure assemblies and details, stringing charts, staking tables, bills of material, and other applicable details.
- Assign tasks and provide guidance to junior team members and coordinate quality control reviews for work performed by EITs and / or Designers.
- Identify and implement learning opportunities for EITs and / or Designers (e.g., job shadowing, project tasks, "show and tell", lunch n learns, knowledge sharing).
- Perform quality control reviews of projects from other teams as needed and provide input on specific design issues and questions.
- Conduct engineering analyses to develop design options and assist with preparation of cost estimates or specifications.
- Attend client stakeholder meetings and lead design reviews with the client.
- Provide input to the development of project manhours estimates and task schedules.
- Manage multiple tasks for multiple projects with consideration to schedule and budget.
- Perform site visits during design, construction, and as-built phases, including field reviews or construction observation.
- Work independently on electrical clearance calculations, lighting photometric calculations, electrical load calculations, short circuit, overcurrent coordination and arc flash studies; collaborate with others on technical report writing.
Preferred Qualifications
Minimum 4 years of experience in distribution planning, modeling, coordination, line design.Experience with structural analysis, plan and profile preparation, line optimization, specifications and drawings for overhead and underground line projects.Experience using PLS-CADD and other design software; knowledge of NESC.Experience with distribution system analysis and design, lighting design, staking, joint-use review, and related tools (CYMCAP, ETAP, Polywater Pull Planner).Experience with pole loading analysis tools (e.g., O-calc, SpidaCalc, Pole Foreman), and Cad software for Electrical Distribution (PLS-CADD, MicroStation / AutoCAD / ArcGIS).Strong client relationship skills.Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Engineering.Professional Engineer (PE) license.Experience in project execution within the Power Market Sector.Computer skills in Microsoft Office and standard Power Market Sector design software (examples include PLS-CADD, AutoCAD, Plant 3D, AutoPIPE, Revit).Active participation in an employee-owned culture and ability to contribute to an inclusive environment.What HDR believes and offers : HDR is committed to employment equity and is an Affirmative Action and Equal Opportunity Employer.
