Intern – Finance

SUMMARY : Metrolink’s Finance Department seeks an enthusiastic and driven individual with an interest in financial reporting and analysis and general accounting to join the Metrolink Internship program. The Intern will support the Accounts Receivable and Treasury team on a variety of tasks including reporting, financial analysis and modelling, account reconciliation, and detailed invoice preparation. The Metrolink Internship program is a unique opportunity for current college students to gain real world experience, work with industry leaders and exercise practical application of academic studies within a department of interest. PROGRAM TERM : This position will be limited to working no more than 19 hours each workweek. Hours may increase for short periods of time but may not exceed 40 hours in a work week and any hours that exceed the 19 hours must be approved in advance. The internship may continue as long as the student is enrolled in school, and total hours worked each fiscal year (July 1 – June 30) does not exceed 999 hours. The duties listed below are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed and are not to be interpreted as an exhaustive list of responsibilities : Performs a variety of administrative support duties such as conducting grant research, gathering data, preparing spreadsheets, reviewing customer agreements, and other similar functions. May perform customer account reconciliations and prepare customer invoices with supporting materials. Prepares financial analyses, models, forecasts, as well as accompanying financial reports. Uses a computer and financial software tools to perform job related tasks, input and maintain records, and / or conduct research as needed. Prepares written communications and presentations and provides assistance on special projects. Works with other Metrolink departments to gather required information and resolve discrepancies. Preferred Qualifications Effective communication skills both verbally and in writing. Demonstrate strong and effective organizational and time management skills. Ability to work independent of supervisor and be motivated to complete work with speed and accuracy. Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Excel and PowerPoint programs. Physical Requirements Transition between a stationary position at a desk or work location and move about Metrolink facilities or other work site locations. Operate tools to perform the duties of the position, such as computers, office equipment and work-related machinery. Transport equipment or boxes up to 25lbs. Exchange ideas by means of communication. Visual acuity to detect, identify and observe employees or train movement and any barriers to movement when working on or near railroad tracks. Hear and perceive the nature of sounds when working on or near railroad tracks. Balance, ascend / descend, climb, kneel, stoop, bend, crouch, or crawl within assigned working conditions and or locations. WORKING CONDITIONS Position requires work in a normal office environment with little exposure to excessive noise, dust, or temperature. Work may also be conducted in outdoor environments, at construction sites, Railroad Track and Right-of-Way environments, and warehouse environments, with possible exposure to individuals who are hostile or irate, moving mechanical parts, and loud noises (85+ decibels, such as heavy trucks, construction, etc.) Selection Process : Following a review of resumes and / or applications, the most highly qualified candidates will be invited to continue in the selection process.
