Courtroom Security Officer

Responsible work maintaining order and decorum and providing security functions within courtrooms and adjacent public areas to ensure the personal protection of judges, jurors, witnesses, attorneys and other persons involved with the court, including the general public. The salary range reflected above is the normal hiring range for 2025. The full salary range, including longevity pay, is $20.50 - $26.73 per hour. St. Louis County does not participate in E-Verify. All employees must be continuously authorized to work in the United States, for St. Louis County, on a full-time basis. St. Louis County does not provide sponsorship for employment visas.

An employee in this class preserves order and control in courtrooms and common areas of the courthouses to ensure the safety of court officials, participants, and the general public. Duties include monitoring and screening individuals, packages and personal items entering and leaving the courtroom using a variety of detection methods and devices; assisting in providing security during heightened security situations; assisting with emergency medical situations as needed; obtaining defendants identifying information in accordance with applicable laws; directing and escorting non-combative custodial individuals within the courthouse. The work is performed in accordance with established Departmental policies under the supervision and authority of the Sheriff's Office, and in conjunction with other courthouse staff.

RARE : Restrain individuals.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Pass / Fail) : High school graduation or equivalent. Possession of a valid driver's license. Candidates with related training in law enforcement, military law enforcement or private security training and / or experience are preferred.
