What you'll do
- Design Development : Collaborate with cross-functional teams including engineers, product managers, and marketing to develop and refine design concepts for interior and exterior automotive components. Translate conceptual ideas into tangible designs that meet functional and aesthetic requirements.
- Sketching and Rendering : Create detailed sketches, renderings, and digital models of interior and exterior automotive designs using industry-standard software. Present design proposals to stakeholders for feedback and iteration.
- 3D Modeling : Use CAD software to produce accurate and realistic 3D models of automotive components, ensuring feasibility, manufacturability, and safety standard compliance.
- Trend Analysis : Stay updated with automotive design, materials, technology, and consumer preferences; apply insights to propose innovative design solutions.
- Prototype Development : Collaborate with prototyping teams to create physical prototypes for evaluation and testing; refine designs based on prototype feedback with engineers.
- Design Documentation : Create comprehensive design documentation including technical drawings, specifications, and design guidelines for manufacturing and production.
- Collaboration and Communication : Communicate design concepts and recommendations to team members and stakeholders; align objectives and maintain project timelines.
Location & Travel Expectations
This role will be based out of the Scout Motors location in Novi, Michigan.Attendance in the office with in-person meetings and events is required regularly.Role may require in-person collaboration with Scout colleagues and travel to participate in events from time to time.What you'll bring
Bachelor's or master's degree in Industrial Design, Transportation Design, Automotive Engineering, or a related field.8+ years of experience in design, with automotive or transportation focus on interior and exterior components.Strong portfolio demonstrating concept development, sketching, rendering, and 3D modeling.Proficient in industry-standard design software such as Photoshop, Alias, Blender, or equivalents.Knowledge of rendering software such as Vred, KeyShot, or V-Ray is desirable.Experience initiating and developing 1 : 1 model experiences.In-depth understanding of automotive design principles, materials, manufacturing processes, and safety standards.Creative thinker with attention to detail; strong aesthetic sense balancing form, function, and market appeal.Excellent verbal and written communication skills for articulating concepts and collaborating with cross-functional teams.Strong teamwork and collaboration skills; open to feedback and iteration based on stakeholder input.Ability to manage multiple design projects, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.What you'll gain

Pay Transparency
This is a full-time, exempt position eligible to receive a base salary and participate in an annual performance bonus program. Final salary is determined based on factors including skills and experience.
Initial base salary range = $130,000.00 - $160,000.00
