Respirable Dust Sampling Manager
Responsible for overseeing the mine's respirable dust sampling program in full compliance with MSHA regulations. Collaborates with mine management to ensure accurate sample collection and regulatory adherence. Develops and maintains the respirable dust sampling schedule, including deployment of Personal Dust Monitors (PDMs), and supervises Dust Technicians to support consistent compliance.
Maintains strong working relationships with MSHA and other regulatory agencies, ensuring transparency and program effectiveness. Manages dust control parameters for underground longwall and continuous miner operations and conducts quarterly audits to verify proper examination and documentation.
Target Responsibilities :
- Maintains and promotes CORE Natural Resources first principles including Safety, Sustainability, and Continuous Improvement.
- Manages the mine's respirable dust sampling program in accordance with the MSHA respirable dust regulations.
- Works closely with the longwall and continuous miner coordinators to efficiently meet 80% production requirements during respirable dust sampling to obtain valid dust samples.
- Schedules and manages the mine Dust Technician or Safety Department staff with respect to off shift dust sampling.
- Works with the CM and LW Coordinators and Mine Engineer to review and maintain an effective Mine Ventilation Plan to minimize potential adjustments for noncompliance.
- Evaluates the effectiveness of dust control measures on CM and Longwall sections.
- Identifies and initiates procedural and equipment changes to improve respirable dust compliance.
- Provides recommendations and best practices for complying with the respirable dust regulations.
- Implements and manages the introduction and use of the PDM (Personal Dust Monitor) sampling device.
- Provides training as needed on the PDM, all dust control methods, and all respiratory protection.
- Monitors and audits required dust record books and all recordkeeping established in the MSHA dust regulations to ensure compliance.
- May require traveling with MSHA inspectors during MSHA respirable dust sampling.
- May require traveling to equipment rebuild shops to inspect dust control systems on mining equipment.
- May require shift work as needed.
- Will require on-call services.
Minimum Requirements :
A minimum of 3-5 years of related experience in mine operations, safety or production experience is preferred.Requires thorough knowledge of coal mining operations, including safety, production, maintenance, equipment usage, mine ventilation and dust control measures, mining laws and staff utilization.Requires extensive knowledge of MSHA respirable dust regulations.May require MSHA Instructor, Underground Mine Foreman, Fireboss, First aid and Dust and Noise Sampling certifications.Preferred knowledge in CPDM Maintenance and Calibration, CPDM Sampling and Gravimetric Sampling.Must possess effective verbal communications skills.Must possess effective organizational skills.Must possess intermediate computer skills. Proficient in Microsoft Excel and capacity to learn Thermo Fisher WinPDM Software.Preferred Qualifications :
Associates / Bachelor's Degree in industrial health and safety, engineering or other related fields preferred.
