Position Summary :
The person in this position will be responsible for food preparation, storage, and supply for residential programs. Essential job functions include those listed below.
Essential Job Functions :
- Oversee and supervise operations including food preparation, cleanliness, and adherence to health codes and regulatory guidelines.
- Responsible for menu planning and food ordering.
- Ensure all meals are prepared according to approved menus, meet meal time schedules, and record client / staff meals census.
- Maintain high health standards, cleanliness, and sanitation, including wearing hairnets and / or caps at all times within food preparation and serving areas.
- Familiarize with California State Health Codes related to commercial kitchen operations and ensure compliance at all times.
- Prepare requisitions for food and commodities as needed, receive, and properly store all deliveries.
- Ensure equipment is in good working condition, monitor temperatures within proper standards, and report repair or maintenance needs to supervisors.
- Label, date, and store all leftovers according to sanitary food handling requirements.
- Maintain professional standards during food preparation and handling, and uphold high levels of housekeeping.
- Taste test food prior to serving and reserve samples of each meal for 24 hours to check for contamination.
- Follow procedures for dispensing and retrieving utensils during and after meal periods.
- Maintain current inventory of all commodities and stored goods.

- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Essential Qualifications :
ServeSafe Certification is required.Education :
High School diploma or equivalent.Experience and Competencies :
At least two years of experience in quality food preparation for large groups or institutional cooking and food service.Culturally and linguistically sensitive to populations served.Ability to pass a criminal history background screening.Valid driver's license and ability to obtain and maintain WestCare's vehicle insurance.Ability to successfully clear and maintain criminal background investigation.Ability to obtain and maintain LEIE, MSIL, EPLS, and other relevant certifications.CPR and First Aid Certifications; annual Tuberculosis test.Working Conditions :
Primarily in a kitchen setting.Some outdoor activities may be required.During employment, there may be new requirements, including vaccinations mandated by local, State, Federal, or funder regulations. WestCare will inform employees of such requirements.
