Position Summary
United Petfood is seeking a Weekend Quality Technician to join our Mishawaka team. This role is ideal for candidates who want a weekend-only schedule, working two 12-hour shifts (Saturday & Sunday, 6 : 00 AM – 6 : 00 PM). Weekend QA Technicians receive 32 hours of pay for 24 hours worked.
The Quality Technician is responsible for maintaining food safety and quality programs, performing in-process testing, and ensuring compliance with GFSI standards, customer requirements, and company policies.

Work Hours : Saturdays & Sundays, 6 : 00 PM – 6 : 00 AM
Hours Worked : 24 hours / week
Hours Paid : 32 hours / week
Key Responsibilities
Verify in-process testing performed by production operators (NIR – moisture, fat, protein; Aw – water activity, density, dimensions).
Work with Processing Technicians and Shift Managers to address any out-of-specification product, completing support documentation.
Conduct direct observations and verification of preventive controls (PCs) for food safety compliance.
Perform GMP inspections, environmental swabbing, and pre-operational checks.
Run laboratory tests for raw materials and finished products.
Analyze data and provide results to management.
Maintain the sample library and submit samples for third-party testing when needed.
Review analytical and pre-shipment documentation to release finished products.
Accurately complete all quality and food safety documentation.
Support continuous improvement in quality and food safety programs.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Workplace Safety
Complete safety documentation and ensure compliance with safety standards.
Participate in mandatory safety trainings.
Immediately report safety issues, near misses, and injuries.
Quality & Food Safety
Maintain compliance with company food safety programs and BRC system requirements.
Participate in food safety and quality training.
Take corrective actions when quality or food safety issues are identified.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Meat Science, or equivalent experience.
Quality Assurance experience in food or pet food manufacturing preferred.
Strong time management, prioritization, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to influence and collaborate effectively across teams.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Detail oriented, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, stand for extended periods, bend, reach, push / pull up to 50 lbs, and climb ladders / catwalks.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of food manufacturing policies and procedures.
Familiarity with GFSI and BRC quality systems.
Previous lab testing or QA experience in production environments.
