Overview
The Seminole County Sheriff's Office is accepting applications for Detention Deputy Recruit (Sponsorship) for Corrections. Detention Deputies perform generalized corrections work in the care, custody, control and re-entry of sentenced and non-sentenced inmates at the John E. Polk Correctional Facility. A Detention Deputy is a uniformed officer responsible for the care, custody, control and re-entry of inmates, helping provide offenders with tools to become law-abiding citizens upon release, while maintaining a consistent routine and demeanor during supervision.
Compensation and benefits
- The hourly base salary during the Corrections academy is $20.00 / hour. After completion of the Corrections Academy, the starting Detention Deputy salary is $62,004 per year ($27.73 / hour), with potential for additional holiday pay up to $3,660 for employees who work twelve-hour shifts. Required documentation

Applications must be submitted before the closing date of October 27, 2025. Successful candidates will begin attending the Corrections Academy on March 3, 2026. Candidates must sign an agreement with the Seminole County Sheriff's Office. Candidates selected must fulfill all academy requirements. Candidates that fail to complete and / or pass the academy or the State Officer Certification Exam will reimburse the Sheriff's Office for expenses incurred. All applicants must follow policy, procedures and general orders of the Sheriff's Office. Applicants must pass the BAT (Basic Abilities Test), PAT (Physical Abilities Test) and the Civil Service written exam.
