Quality & Operational Improvement Engineer - DeGowin Blood Center

Join the University of Iowa to apply for the Quality & Operational Improvement Engineer - DeGowin Blood Center role. This full-time position is Monday-Friday, first shift (1st shift) and 100% time.

Overview

The Department of Pathology is seeking a Quality and Operational Improvement Engineer to revise, implement, evaluate and maintain the quality system management program at DeGowin Blood Center. The goal is to ensure compliance with regulatory and accreditation agencies and to provide a safe, effective blood supply for patients and a safe donation process for donors.

Responsibilities

Coordinate, review and manage the error management program for DeGowin Blood Center.
Participate in document review, including quality assurance documents.
Audit quality and operational processes to ensure compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards.
Participate in the development and review of policies, processes and procedures related to the quality management program.
Assist in the preparation and on-site hosting of external inspections.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a chemical, biological, or clinical laboratory science from an accredited institution, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

1–3 years of laboratory or quality program experience.

Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment with effective leadership skills.

Demonstrated ability to work independently, meet deadlines efficiently, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, and maintain high self-motivation.

Desirable Qualifications

MT(ASCP) (or other ASCP certification) or NCA certification with specialty certification as a Specialist in Blood Banking (SBB).

Experience in an academic medical center, preferably in transfusion medicine.

Knowledge of the regulations and accrediting standards of CMS, TJC, CAP, and AABB.
