Senior Engineer
The Senior Engineer will conduct needs and solutions studies, develop engineered solutions to address electric system needs; prioritize capital projects; develop a long-term plan for implementation; and contribute to the development of internal resources. This will include preparing detailed documentation of strategy for ensuring system reliability and resiliency, and justification for proposed projects. This is a collaborative role which supports many business areas within United Illuminating such as maintenance, operations, protection & controls, transmission & distribution planning.
Key responsibilities include :
- Engineer solutions for transmission, substation and distribution system needs to a conceptual level including detailed cost estimates and schedule. Includes preparing general arrangement drawings and one-line drawings using AutoCAD
- Create projects / programs to maintain the health of assets with recommendations for system improvements based on priority and present to internal stakeholders for review and consideration.
- Advance proposed projects through the investment planning process. Prepare presentations and reports for stakeholder review and comment. Collaborate with relevant business areas to ensure system needs are identified and addressed.
- Support local and regional regulatory and ISO processes. Including responses to inquiries and contributing to strategic planning reports and testimony.
- Identify potential areas for process improvement to align system planning with company goals and objectives.
- Contribute to internal System Review Group responsible for vetting and approving proposed projects prior to execution.
- Provide support to develop team resources including review of project documentation and establishing the appropriate level of detail required based on cost and complexity of proposed projects.
- Support storm restoration efforts as required.
Required qualifications include :
Bachelor's degree in electrical, civil or structural engineering plus 5 years' experience working in the power system industry.In-depth knowledge of design codes and industry standards such as NESC, IEEE.Ability to collaborate with both internal and external teams and stakeholders. Organize efforts and schedules to successfully complete objectives.Understanding of regulatory and ISO requirements and constraints. New England Pool Transmission Facilities (ISO-NE), Connecticut PURA, Non-Wires Solutions regulations, etc.Effective communication skills, both verbal and written. Ability to deliver verbal presentations clearly and concisely; prepare engineering documentation; review and provide constructive feedback on documentation prepared by others.Strong technical skills and experience collaborating on highly complex multi-disciplinary projects.Preferred qualifications include :
