Overview
FY26 : Teacher, Special Education, RICA, 1.0 FTE
Under the direction of the school principal and special education supervisor, the special education teacher provides direct instruction and instructional support to students with disabilities and collaborates with the general education teacher. Monitors and evaluates outcomes for students with disabilities and assists in the development of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). Physical Demands and special requirements are as described for the role, including attendance at meetings and activities outside the instructional day as mandated. MCPS-required coursework in behavioral management and related supports may apply to teachers in identified schools / programs.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct instruction and instructional support to students with disabilities.
- Collaborate with general education teachers to support student learning.
- Monitor and evaluate outcomes for students with disabilities.
- Assist in the development of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
- Participate in school meetings, programs, and activities outside the instructional day as required.
- Support behavioral interventions as needed, including behavioral management strategies and related trainings.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in special education (or equivalent) and certified per Maryland standards.Meets Maryland State Department of Education certification requirements for Standard Professional Certification I (SPC I) in special education; certification in a content area is desirable.Knowledge of MCPS curriculum, IEP processes, data collection, differentiated instruction, and evidence-based practices in special education.Ability to adapt instructional programs and materials; strong communication with students, families, and staff.Experience with ESSA, IDEA and related policies and procedures in special education.Job Details
