OR Surgical Assistant
Education and Experience
High School Diploma or equivalent. Fluent in speaking, reading, and writing English. Must be currently enrolled in college courses in a health-care related field (nursing, surgical technology, etc).
Environmental / Working Conditions
The area the work is performed in is high-risk area for exposure to blood borne pathogens. Works in a well- lighted ventilated area. Hours of duty may be irregular with covering various shifts.
Interaction with Other Departments and Other Relationships
Close relationship with Sterile Processing Department and OR Materials Management.
Job Description
Assist with all aspects of preparation of the operating room, equipment, and instruments needed for providing patient care as directed by the registered nurse. Duties may include room set-up, instrument preparation (including decontamination and assembly), equipment maintenance and use, patient transport, transport of supplies, and other duties.
Required Licensures / Certifications / Registrations
Must maintain BLS certification.
Physical Capabilities
Work is of heavy demand. Standing and walking most of the time on duty. Lifting and pushing patient beds, stretchers, and wheelchairs daily. Lifting and pushing equipment daily. Mopping, waxing, trash disposal, and general housekeeping daily. Near visual acuity, talking, and hearing necessary to communicate with patients and staff.
